Rice Surprise
I went to Festival Mall to check out the schedule of activities around the area where there are usually shows during weekends. After few checks, I realized it was already lunch time so I went down to the food court at the ground floor and noticed this Rice Surprice in a slanted corner.
The name of the stall sounds intriguing. What could be surprising about rice? Let's find out.
I got in front of the stall where there were two men in queue. The second one was lining up his bulk order while I tried hard to sneak at his back and check these on display. He ordered for more than ten people and I thought I should move to another stall because I did not want to wait but the crew said they will just prepare his order and have it delivered. "So it can wait; my order can be squeezed in," I thought.
The dishes on display are Filipino dishes which are more on dry ones. No soup. While we Filipinos are not so conscious about timing vs. the kind of meal served, the ones on the front line are mostly for breakfast (not to mention the sunny-side -up egg!).
I ordered pork chop and to my surprise, it was served on a sizzling pan! I thought my reaction was funny when I checked the displays again. The label of pork chop does not say "sizzling" but all menu on display are in a sizzling pan. How could I miss that? Well, that's a bonus! One more exciting thing is the speed of service. I did not feel waiting and my order was already being served. That was fast!
I took my seat and started to eat. It's hot! The pork chop sauce was poured over the rice. It was like I have not enough soup. 😃 Anyway, at the price of P69.00 (US$ 1.32), the taste seem just okay. Nothing fancy but it was not bad either. The serving size is also just right so there is no need to worry about leftovers. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. 😊
