On my walk home this morning from Walmart I came across a trash can with scattered trash around it. These trash cans line many spots along the walking trails that network throughout The Woodlands area.

My initial thought was that there are city workers that clean the walk ways so I don't need to worry about it. Then from behind me a kid, maybe 10-11, rolled past me on a longboard up to the trash can. He must have been on his way to school because he had his backpack on.

He proceeded to pick up the trash scattered around the trash can. That both, made me happy and angry at the same time. Happy to see this young man picking up trash with no promise of reward. Angry with myself because I was going to keep walking.
To top it off , as I help him pick up the trash, he thanks me for helping. So dumbfounded by the actions of this kid, I forget to take a picture with this kid to memorialize his actions. Thanks to social media I am still able to share this wonderful encounter.

Little things like this not only restores faith in humanity but shows that awesome parenting is not dead. Thank you, little stranger. You're well on your way to becoming a fine asset to this world. Bravo 👏

Great story - and life lesson.

Thank you. Definitely was.

Less trash is a good thing.
