El Cristo mallorquín / The Mallorcan Christ.
Una de las curiosidades de Palma de Mallorca es el Cristo de la Sangre.
En estas islas del mar Mediterráneo a la que acuden millones de turistas cada año, pocos de ellos se acercan a contemplar esta imagen que es motivo de una gran devoción. El Cristo de la Sangre se encuentra instalado en la iglesia de la “Anunciación de la Virgen Nuestra Señora” que es justamente la iglesia del Hospital General y que fue fundado en 1456.
El Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre es la imagen religiosa que más se venera y respeta en de Palma de Mallorca (Islas Baleares), aunque tiene grandes competidoras como son la Virgen de la Salud (patrona de la ciudad de Palma) y la Virgen del Lluc (Patrona de Mallorca y de las Islas Baleares).
Como siempre, nos atrae la cultura y la tradición. Así que fuimos a visitarlo.
Para acceder a la iglesia y observar el Cristo, atravesamos un bonito patio gótico.
Para que la imagen pudiera ser transportada con facilidad, se elaboró con materiales ligeros. Por eso utilizaron una madera que pesa poco. La tallaron en madera de alcornoque y la completaron con yeso. La imagen solo pesa 50 kg, pero el problema es que es muy frágil.
Lo que más me impresionó del Cristo fue su cabeza extremadamente doblada sobre el hombro. Me conmovió bastante por su extremada laxitud, signo de su “exitus letalis”.
También me asombró la extremada longitud de sus brazos, su figura tan delgada y enjuta y la longitud de sus lacios cabellos naturales de color castaño.
Se desconoce el nombre del escultor y también el año de su ejecución. Sin embargo se sabe que en 1564 la imagen salió en una procesión.
En el año 2002, la imagen sufrió un acto vandálico y el Cristo quedó destrozado con múltiples desperfectos. Un poderoso clamor popular se alzó y la imagen fue restaurada aunque ahora, por seguridad, se exhibe protegida dentro de un camarín de cristal.
Dentro de la iglesia la imagen se encuentra en una pequeña capilla lateral. En su extremo, en un nivel mas elevado, está Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre. Se puede llegar hasta el camarín ascendiendo por unas escaleras laterales.
Al Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre vienen muchas novias devotas para depositar sus ramos como ofrenda después de contraer matrimonio. No me resulta extraño pues es una tradición que se da en muchos lugares y porque en la iglesia se respira mucha paz y tranquilidad.
La vidriera central de la iglesia representa la Anunciación. Me pareció una vidriera extraordinaria. Su colorido y composición me pareció impresionante. También son fabulosas las vidrieras de los lados del atrio y todas las que ocupan las ventanas de la parte superior que iluminan sutilmente el interior del templo.
En la Semana Santa, el Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre es llevado en procesión del jueves santo. Se congrega una gran multitud para ello pues participan a más de20.000 cofrades miles de fieles que te lo acompañan por toda la ciudad. De hecho, es la procesión más concurrida de la Semana Santa en las Islas Baleares.
Me gustó mucho conocer esta iglesia y el Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre que en ella se alberga. Sin duda, es una de las mejores esculturas de la imaginería religiosa hispana y
os sugiero que, si vais a Mallorca, encontréis algún momento para ir a visitarla. Seguro que no os defraudará.
The Mallorcan Christ
One of the curiosities of Palma de Mallorca is the Christ of the Blood.
In these islands of the Mediterranean Sea to which millions of tourists come every year, few of them come to contemplate this image that is the cause of great devotion. As always, I am attracted to culture and tradition. So we went to visit him.
To access the church and observe the Christ, we cross a beautiful Gothic courtyard.
So that the image could be transported easily, it was made with lightweight materials. That's why they used a wood that weighs little. They carved it in cork oak wood and completed it with plaster. The image only weighs 50 kg, but the problem is that it is very fragile.
What impressed me most about Christ was his extremely bent head over his shoulder. I was quite moved by his extreme laxity, sign of his “exitus letalis”.
I was also amazed at the extreme length of his arms, his thin and thin figure and the length of his straight brown hair.
The name of the sculptor and the year of its execution are unknown. However it is known that in 1564 the image came out in a procession.
In 2002, the image suffered a vandalism and the Christ was destroyed with multiple damages. A powerful popular clamor was raised and the image was restored although now, for security, it is exhibited protected inside a glass dressing room.
Inside the church the image is in a small side chapel. At its end, on a higher level, is the Holy Christ of the Blood. You can reach the dressing room by ascending some side stairs.
To the Blessed Christ of the Blood many devout brides come to deposit their branches as an offering after marriage. I do not find it strange because it is a tradition that occurs in many places and because in the church there is a lot of peace and tranquility.
The central stained glass window of the church represents the Annunciation. I thought it was an extraordinary window. Its color and composition seemed impressive. The windows on the sides of the atrium and all those that occupy the windows of the upper part that illuminate the interior of the temple are also fabulous.
In Holy Week, the Blessed Christ of the Blood is taken in procession on Holy Thursday. A large crowd congregates for this because more than 20,000 brotherhoods participate thousands of faithful who accompany you throughout the city. In fact, it is the busiest procession of Holy Week in the Balearic Islands.
I enjoyed meeting this church and the Blessed Christ of the Blood that houses it. Without a doubt, it is one of the best sculptures of Hispanic religious imagery and I suggest that, if you go to Mallorca, you will find some time to visit it. Surely it will not disappoint you.

Los dibujos los hice en el iPad con el programa Sketches.
For the photography I use my iPhone X. For edition I use the Snapseed application and for the digital signature the Watermark app.
Everything I did on my mobile phone, I did not use the computer at all.
For the drawings, I use the Sketches program and paint them on the tablet.

Para mi todas las iglesias tienen ese no sé qué... ese algo especial donde se enmarca una belleza inigualable. Hermosa foto principal, aunque las otras no dejan de serlo. Saludos amigo.

La iglesia de la “Anunciación de la Virgen Nuestra Señora” es hermosa. Las vidrieras ( en Venezuela se conocen como vitrales), el cristo, el patio.
