The Joy of Classics (39)

Hello again, dear Steemians!

Christmas is coming!
These days I remember specially the family and the old friends from always. I used to listen to some carols with my kids and also teach my students how to play the most famous ones, like "Silent Night" and "Jingle Bells".

But today I would like to play for you this unknown piece called "Christmas Pastorale (the Shepherd's call from Bethlehem)" by the German composer Johann Valentin Rathgeber (1682-1750) who was one of the most popular and respected composers in southern Germany in this period.

It is written in C Major, and as you can see it is full of joy and character.

Notice that Rathgeber joined the Benedictine Order, and in 1711 entered the priesthood becoming and organist, choirmaster and preacher at the abbey.

Maybe, for that reason, his music contains a kind of religious feeling, combining classical elements of articulation and easy phrasing.

I love to make known these fantastic unknown composers, and for that reason, today, the joy of the classics is more joyfull than ever!

¡Ya viene la Navidad!
Estos días recuerdo a la familia y a los viejos amigos de siempre. Normalmente escucho algunos villancicos con mis hijos y también les enseño a mis alumnos a tocar los más famosos, como "Noche de Paz" y "Jingle Bells".

Pero hoy me gustaría tocar para ustedes esta pieza desconocida llamada "Pastoral de Navidad (el canto del pastor de Belén)" del compositor alemán Valentin Rathgeber (1682-1750), que fue uno de los compositores más populares y respetados del sur de Alemania en este período.

Está escrita en Do Mayor, y como podéis comprobar, está repleta de alegría y carácter.

Daos cuenta que Rathgeber se unió a la Orden Benedictina, y en 1711 ingresó como sacerdote y se convirtió en organista, maestro de coro y predicador en la abadía.

Tal vez, por esa razón, su música contiene una especie de sentimiento religioso, que combina elementos clásicos de articulación y fraseo fácil.

Me encanta dar a conocer estos fantásticos compositores desconocidos, y por eso, hoy, ¡la alegría de los clásicos es más alegre que nunca!
