It was just like the trailer said it was
If you're expecting fierce firefights, countless human lives lost and America saving the day. You will not like this movie. This movie is as close as you can get to a real reflexion of what the U.S did in Afghanistan.
But it doesn't completely fill that role.
First of all you need to know that the movie is based on this book
And the movie is narrated through the perspective of the civilian that wrote the book, a Rolling Stone journalist. As a civilian he has an outsiders perspective that its about to be changed.
Meet General Mcmahon (Brad Pitt)
War veteran and master of logistics. He wrote a book in the middle of the Iraq war. In which he said that in order to be effective, both in combat and as a unit,q men must be led
From this point on you can get a feeling of the american arrogance that it seems to be prevalent in the top branch (similar to the beginning scene of When we were Soldiers).
The first impression we get from hin is that of an old school general. He's a ranger, he always has his hand clutched on an imaginary cigar, and he walks as if he was a master conqueror in his own reality. The general had a successful campaign in Iraq and planned to do the same in Afghanistan.
Since for him it wasn't a question of the reality of the situation and its problems. It was a matter of lack of leadership and bad planning.
Now meet his staff
They were all believers in big Glenn, they respected and loved him as he did the same with his troops.
### Meet the narrator
He is the guy in the middle
As a civilian journalist the narrator knows about politics. And as the movie progresses we are going to see General Mcmahon not as a general but as a political figure. Because he is the clean the mess guy.
And that is the juice of the entire film.
This is a political satire that plays as a parody documentary. I saw it with my family and the humor it delivers is good but not for everyone. If you are not a fan of dialogue heavy movies then you might not like War Machine.
It's funny that the name indicates war and machine, but it doesn't refer to the actual machinery that does the war but rather the real machine that both feeds and gets fed by war.
At this point you might said; "gosh I wish this was the super hero marvel film instead"
Because the movie itself is slow, the arcs take a while to develop and sometimes the exposure of the circumstances although interesting and sometimes funny, could have been done in a better way. The movie was made to give a vibe of corruption and to reveal how different from dreams the real war is, not only for its ugliness, but for its politics.
Someone needs to take out the trash, but no one wants to do it
And if the man chosen to the job doesn't do it, for whatever reason, he will be ousted and replaced by another man that will obey the real machine.
Conclusion
War Machine is not for everyone, it's a properly made movie but suffers from an identity crisis, it doesn't embrace satire and it doesn't embrace serious reflection, it felt weird and unfulfilled.
The divide between civilian and military grows bigger with each minute of the movie and at the end it becomes clear to the audience that the true War Machine is not the military but rather the civilian power. And the only thing they have in common is arrogance, a recurring theme in the movie.
To some being in the army is a what they were created for, to others a duty and to others a way to get some cash. And all these contrast are taken into consideration in the film. But it stills fails to achieve the level of a better than average movie.

Es exactamente igual a lo que dijo el trailer
Si estás esperando tiroteos, innumerables vidas humanas perdidas y América salvando el día. No te gustará esta película. Esta película es lo más cercana posible a una verdadera reflexión de lo que hicieron los Estados Unidos en Afganistán.
Pero no llena ese rol
Primero que todo deben saber que la película está basada en este libro
La película es narrada a través de la perspectiva del civil que escribió el libro , un periodista de la revista Rolling Stone. Como civil el tiene la perspectiva de un extranjero respecto al mundo militar que será cambiada.
Conozcan al general Mcmahon (Bradd Pitt)}
Veterano de guerra y maestro de logística. Escribió un libro en el medio de la guerra de Irak, en el que dijo que: para que los hombres sean efectivos ellos tienen que ser liderados.
Desde este punto en adelante se puede sentir esa sensación típica de arrogancia americana que parece ser relevante en los altos mandos(similar a la escena inicial de Cuando fuimos Soldados).
La primera impresión que obtenemos de él es la de un general de la vieja escuela. Es un Ranger, siempre tiene su mano cerrada alrededor de un tabaco imaginario y camina como si fuera el maestro y señor en su propia realidad. El general tuvo una campaña exitosa en Irak y planeaba hacer exactamente lo mismo en Afghanistan.
Ya que para el no era una pregunta de la realidad de la situación y sus problemas. Para él es un asunto de falta de liderazgo y mal planeamiento.
Y ahora conozcan a su personal
Estos hombres amaban y respetaban a Glenn y el los quería, los cuidaba y los respetaba.
Conoce al narrador
Es el del medio
Como un periodista civil el narrador conoce de política. Y mientras la película progresa observaremos al general Mcmahon no como un general sino como una figura política. Porque él es quien va a limpiar ese desastre.
Y ese es el punto de la película
Esta es una sátira política que funciona como un documental de parodia. La vi con mi familia y el humor es bueno pero no es para todo, muchas veces era el único que se reía. Si no eres un admirador de las películas pesadas en diálogo quizás War Machine no sea para ti.
Es cómico que el nombre indica guerra y máquina, pero no se refiere a la maquinaria de guerra como tal, sino a la verdadera máquina que se alimenta y es alimentada por la guerra.
Es en este punto donde te gustaría que la película fuera sobre el super héroe de Marvel
Porque la película es lenta, los arcos de la historia se desarrollan y algunas veces la exposición de las circunstancias puede llegar a ser interesante y divertida, pero pudo haberse hecho de una mejor manera. La película da una vibra de corrupción y revela lo diferente que es la guerra de los sueños, no por su fealdad ni perdida de vidas, sino por sus políticas.
Alguien tiene que sacar la basura. Y nadie quiere hacerlo
Y si el hombre al que le ordenamos hacerlo no lo hace de la forma correcta o no lo hace, será cambiado por otro que si lo haga.
Conclusión
War Machine no es un película para todos, está bien hecha pero sufre de una crisis de identidad, no acepta completamente ser una sátira y tampoco acepta ser completamente una película con una reflexión profunda de lo que sucedio. Se siente rara e indecisa.
La división entre civil y militar crece con cada minuto de la película y al final se vuelve claro cuál de los dos maneja el poder, no son los militares, son los civiles. Y la cosa que los conecta es la arrogancia, un tema recurrente en la película.
Para algunos unirse al ejercito es una cosa para la cual fueron hechos, para otros es un deber y para otros es una forma de obtener dinero. Y todos estos contrastes son colocados en la película, sin embargo falla en llegar a ser algo más que una película dominguera.
