RANT: LGV10 - The Disposable Flagship Phone

in #life7 years ago

I have been highlighting that my previous phone died. Along with it some wonderful memories of adventures and family time.

It was an LG V10 - A Flagship phone from LG back in the day. The LG V10 was somehow underspecc'd because of the fear of the most recent processor at that time the Qualcomm 810. They settled for the QC808, a hexacore, which was found in their G4 unit and was good enough for me at that time.

I bought the unit out of sheer envy. The rubber back finish to the aircraft grade aluminum sides, not to mention the camera, oh the camera was so good for it's time. That zoom was being drooled over by friends who got to test out my phone as you can see things as if it were a telescope.

This was my very first flagship phone, and this was a gift for myself last Christmas of 2015. Research was done and I was sold as I recently mentioned. However, there was one thing I was not able to see on my research. The possibility of it acquiring the same bootloop issue haunting the LG G4.

I always thought that this would last me a good 2.5 to 3 years. I intended to purchase a flagship phone for long term usage. I used the phone just like an average joe. Game (Hearthstone) here and there. Maybe some "Clash Royale" along the sides. Facebook, Texting, and Data always on. I don't even take pictures that much.

I have had this updated to Marshmallow already, and was supposed to be ready for Nougat. Researching the launch date for the Nougat release also told me more about what is plaguing the V10. It was also haunted by the dreaded "Bootloop issue". I have read countless of stories being told and troubleshooting being done to treat the bootloop issue.

So I'd say, I was fortunate, the phone lasted a year with me already. I might have been spared by the gods of tech from the actual issue. Normal as it were, I found that the phone heats up faster than it did before. Still bearable, but hotter than usual.
So I thought wear and tear. This is normal, I will have to get it to rest every now and then. So just like a puppy dog, I did, caring for it as if it were alive, giving it rest as if it were not a machine (Please excuse my sarcasm).

Nougat has been launched on many different phones already. Not to mention that the younger brother of the LGV10, the LGV20, came out with Android Nougat installed. And the more research I found out, the more dreaded the news became of the notorious booloop issue.

So I am pretty sure, you have already figured it out. I was hit by the dreaded bootloop issue. On June 2017 - the bootloop struck when I was playing "Everwing", how ironic. A messenger app, capable of heating up the phone that much to crippling it. An email for a repair order was sent to LG, and as expected, forwarded me over to their "authorized repair centers" which I did. I had it checked, and after 2 days of waiting. I was told that this was an issue on the "Main Board." That was totally expected, but this Main Board replacement would cost Php7,000 around 150USD, which I did not have at that time. I had to ask if their warranty was extended as some regions have already done so for their units, and obviously, they said no.

I emailed LG again regarding the situation and was told that the 1 year warranty is the 1 year warranty. And to sum it all up, there was nothing that they can do about it. That was just great. My birth month and this is what I get (Not that my birth month matters).

What I find unfair is that the international markets have received extended warranty for the LG G4 and the LG V10 Units for having acknowledged that their hardware was the one that caused this. So why not the Philippines? How do we differ than the rest of the world?

I usually keep my rants to myself, but this one is much for me to bear as I know a lot of you may have experienced this on your LG units also.

I am decided that I will not have this repaired anymore. I don't see the need as plenty who has had theirs repaired, well got burned again.

Others highlighted that they are on their 3rd repair.

I am now very tempted to do the "FIXES" posted on youtube. Some might seem absurd, but what else can I do?

The Freezer

The Thermal Patch Replacement

The Firmware reinstallation

These are just some of the few "FIXES" I am seeing on youtube. I have not tried any of them though, so since I am hopeless and would want to feel a little hopeful, please comment below on what you would like to have me try and do to "FIX" this bootloop issue. (VLOG anyone?)

I apologize for having posted this rant on steemit. This was just a way for me to blow off some steem. If you feel the same sentiment as me, or you took part in a bootloop experience. Please feel free to upvote and comment on your experiences below.

I don't feel like this stuff needs to be resteemed, we have so much bloody mess in society, and to add me into the mix would just make it terribad. So that option should be up to you :) LOL.

PS. Some other units may have beein included in the lawsuit being filed against LG.

Please keep a lookout if you have these devices. They may have the dreaded "bootloop" disease as well.

Till next time!

Followed you so that I can support fellow filipinos with Steemit! More power to you!

Thank you so much for showing support. @philippinetrail and @teamphilippines is all about that.

Great post, thanks for sharing with us. It does seem very unfair that LG won't offer extended warranty in the Philippines when they offer it in other international markets. There are not too many great companies who do support their devices any more, sadly for you LG is one of those who obviously don't.
LG buyers beware, or maybe don't buy LG.

It took Samsung quite some time to recognize that their Note7 was a bomb waiting to explode in the home, or maybe our hands. International evidence made them recall their devices and even disable those not returned.

Does the Philiippines have a consumer protection law, maybe contact them, your phone is not fit for the purpose it was purchased for and LG knew about the fault before the warranty expired most likely.

That is one approach I failed to have pursued. I fear that the cost of lawyers would be more than the actual cost of the phone itself. And yes, I believe it is a must to avoid LG as a whole as this whole thing doesn't seem to be stopping after the "lawsuits" now include other models of the brand.

Maybe you could try to get a group going on social media (or Steemit) to shame LG, gets lots of people who are having the same issues with their phones then go to your government or local representatives, newspapers etc about the brand not supporting a known problem. Shame them into doing something for their Philippines customers. It is same that many corporations don't understand that unhappy customers😠 tell more people about it than happy ones😃.

Yea. That sounds like a good idea. But I am not really a type of person who likes flaming/bashing others like these corporations. But yes, I feel like I was cheated for my money since launch of the device. I'll think about it. My wife has an LGV20. I hope the experience does not happen to her to, if it does, it may as well push us to doing so.

I had my LG G4 die on me and instead of repairing it in warranty they made up an excuse it has waterdamage and I even had to pay to get it back...LG SUCKS !

I just had a friend mentioned to me that he bought a G4 which only lasted 4 days.

I've decided I'm done with pricey phones. The quality has gotten so awful in recent years, and the manufacturers refuse to do anything about it even when it's clearly their fault. I think I'm just going to start going with cheap pre-paids so I can slash my bills, and if they break oh well, buy another crap phone. I don't use my phone that much these days anyway.

I have come to realize that flagship phones does not necessarily mean - Long Lasting. After this has happened, I am willing to settle for a phone under 200USD that would suit my needs. I am sure there are some that are already speccd or benchmarked more than the V10.

ah, yess, bootloop story, unfortunately :(

sucks to be me aye? :(

I was on the verge of buying LG g4. I really really loved the camera. But, found out that "new motherboard series" is just a myth. every single g4 will bootloop eventually... they never fixed it. there is no fix. but dozens of people think they will be lucky. V10 is g4's bootloop brother :(

"disposable flagship phone"
nice way of putting it:)

I hope the other brother the LGV20 would not fail since my wife is using it. That would be the time I will totally resent anything LG ever produces.
