OPEN MIC WEEK 39 - Ode to Gideon, Ode to my sweet little flamenco

in #openmic7 years ago (edited)

Greetings Steemits.

This is a little Home Baked original Medley, dedicated to a fine Luthier named Gideon Weigert. I'm not sure this blog title is correct, as I'm a bit of a newbie, I've just seen it on other blogs, so please advise me otherwise if I got that wrong.

The Guitar has a chequered and very sad History, but I believe its finally found the love it deserves. It was built by Gideon Weigert and gifted to a mutual friend of ours. It sustained life threatening injuries, but was miraculously saved, and then gifted to me by a very dear friend. I never met Gideon, but he must surely have built this guitar for me. In all my years of playing, which number too many to mention, I have never played a more soulful, resonant perfectly formed guitar. Gideon is a true artist, and if your in the market for a hand made guitar, I couldnt recommend enough that you visit his website and take a look. Even if your not in the market for a guitar, you should still take a look. Gideon makes art out of wood, with the added bonus, that they play beautiful music.

For those that are interested, the body is rosewood with rosewood bindings, ebony fingerboard, I believe a mahogony neck, and either ceder, or spruce top, I’m not sure. And I’m using medium tension ground nylon.

To be fair, I'm not the best ambassador for Gideon, as no doubt this recording will testify. I'm a little rusty, and my recording equipment is a built in mic, fan noise an all, so apologies for that. But I hope u'll enjoy it anyway.

That's beautiful - your playing and the things you wrote about me. Thanks so much for sharing. It makes me very happy to know that my guitars find their way to the right players for them. Thanks too for restoring her back to life. Play on my friend, play on!

Wow, Gideon !! amazing :)) ty I didn't know u were on steemit. So sorry I couldn't make it sound better.

What you didn't know he was on Steemit?...?

No ... scouts honour O.o I've come across a few people I know, not sure if that means steemit is more popular than I thought, or my friends all have similar interests :)

But the guy is from Israel, how did you two meet?

No ... I never met him, we have a mutual friend, if you read in my blog, this is all explained :)

Well I would love to have one of his guitars, I'm looking for a classical one.. How much are they generally?

Thats crazy .... thx eco

Sweet guitar and an even sweeter way of playing it. Glad you found Steemit to come out with it, thanks for the music

I recognise that profile :)) xx, thanx Bub.

A beautiful piece of music and very heartfelt. A gorgeous guitar to play on as well. Its sounded fine in my headphones too so all good. Im not sure what other mics you may have, but as a soundie i can suggest a few different ways, but one i have found (and will do a post on this pretty soon i think) is the following i learned.

get two condenser mics, set one around the 12th fret where the body meets the neck and the other around the 3rd fret. keep them nice n close, about a few cm giving your hands room to move in front of them so they don't get knocked. i recorded a few guitars just using this basic technique and they came out nice. Use mics with a cardioid polar pattern, and run them into an external sound card if you have one. Run into your recording software (if you have it) as mono tracks and set one left and the other to the right so you have a nice stereo spread. this is just a brief intro and i will go into more as i add blogs here.
Hope that helps.
cheers
Shan the sound man.

Thank you for the advice, and encouragement. Unfortunately I'm stuck on a mountain at the moment, so access to these things is a little difficult without major travel ... but I'll follow your post with interest :)

Looks like you can make a living busking in your bathrobe mate! Amazing performance. Where is it possible to get such a guitar? Does he still make them? People might be interested in his website or contact if you have any for him. You certainly show what they can do, beautifully. Bravo!

oh yes. www.handmade-guitars.com

Great! Thanks mate!

o man, that is so beautiful!

I really enjoyed this piece and the story for the guitar.

Ty vache morte

Your guitar playing is absolutely lovely :)

I'm going to page @vachemorte because he studied as a luthier and he'll want to see this! He is actually planning a post soon to showcase the instruments he built!

Thank you for this gorgeous tune :)

Ah thanks @juliakponsford but I already spotted this post. Also @stillgideon might be interested to find another luthier on steemit... at least I was.

Yy Julia K. :)
