El Saladillo es un barrio tradicional de la ciudad de Maracaibo, que debe su nombre a su ubicación al lado de un par de salinas llamadas salina ancha y salina angosta, que iban desde el frente del actual malecón (Puerto de Maracaibo) hasta puente España en la ciudad. La primera mención histórica sobre el barrio se remonta al año 1774, cuando el Obispo Mariano Martí realizara una Visita Pastoral al ser trasladado de la diócesis de San Juan en la isla de Puerto Rico a la diócesis de la capital venezolana.

Durante los Siglos XIX y XX se desarrollaría un estilo local de vivienda popular adaptado a las inclementes condiciones climáticas de la ciudad, caracterizada por sus altas temperaturas durante gran parte del año y la presencia de una gran humedad en el ambiente por su cercanía al Lago de Maracaibo; lo cual le daría un carácter autóctono y una identidad propia muy arraigada en la idiosincracia marabina. Dentro de este espacio transcurría en el pasado gran parte de la actividad gubernamental, religiosa y cultural de la ciudad.

En la década de los años 70, un plan de desarrollo urbano destruiría gran parte del sector para crear y ampliar las vías de comunicación en el centro de la ciudad, quedando hoy en día pocos vestigios del barrio original, sin embargo, se conservan varias edificaciones históricas, especialmente en los alrededores de la Calle de la tradición o Calle Carabobo, la cual ha sido declarada "Zona de Valor Histórico de la Nación" y "Patrimonio Histórico Artístico y Cultural de la ciudad de Maracaibo".

La fotografía original tomada a color unos años atrás, cuando por razones laborales, me tuve residenciar en la ciudad por un período de cinco meses. Posteriormente, la modifiqué con las herramientas que proporciona el editor de imágenes PicsArt. En esta oportunidad, y como es usual en mis publicaciones anteriores, utilicé una superposición de filtros, comenzando con un filtro del tipo HDR (High Dynamic Range) con la finalidad de ampliar los tonos de la imagen original, y posteriormente un filtro sencillo de Blanco & Negro.

El Saladillo is a traditional neighborhood of the city of Maracaibo, which owes its name to its location next to a couple of salt flats called wide saline and narrow saline, which ranged from the front of the current boardwalk (Puerto de Maracaibo) to the bridge Spain in the city. The first historical mention of the neighborhood dates back to 1774, when Bishop Mariano Martí made a Pastoral Visit when he was transferred from the diocese of San Juan on the island of Puerto Rico to the diocese of the Venezuelan capital.

During the 19th and 20th centuries a local style of popular housing would be developed adapted to the harsh climatic conditions of the city, characterized by its high temperatures during much of the year and the presence of high humidity in the environment due to its proximity to the Lake of Maracaibo; which would give it a native character and its own identity deeply rooted in the Marabian idiosyncrasy. Within this space much of the governmental, religious and cultural activity of the city was spent in the past.

In the decade of the 70s, an urban development plan would destroy a large part of the sector to create and expand communication routes in the city center, with few vestiges of the original neighborhood remaining today, however, several buildings are preserved historical, especially in the surroundings of the Street of the tradition or Carabobo Street, which has been declared "Zone of Historical Value of the Nation" and "Historical Artistic and Cultural Patrimony of the city of Maracaibo".

The original photograph taken in color a few years ago, when for work reasons, I had to reside in the city for a period of five months. Later, I modified it with the tools provided by the image editor PicsArt. On this occasion, and as usual in my previous publications, I used an overlay of filters, starting with a filter of the type HDR (High Dynamic Range) in order to expand the tones of the original image, and then a simple White filter & Black.
