Traveling with me #12: Mauritius giant Tortoises - Las tortugas gigantes de Mauricio

in #travel7 years ago

Four years ago I traveled to Mauritius, it was a spectacular trip, one of the best in my life. I remembered this fabulous trip because my son told me he wanted a pet turtle. And to all this, what relationship do you think there is between a turtle and Mauritius? Well, it's none other than... Mauritius's giant tortoises!

I met this fabulous animal in the Natural Park of L'Vainille, in which there are many different animals (another day I will make a post of all the animals of the park) but in which the biggest attraction are the giant tortoises. This animal was almost extinct, as if it happened to the Dodo, the great icon of Mauritius. 10,000 turtles were killed a year to deal with their shell, but luckily they repopulated the species and today they are still with us.

Seeing a turtle so big so close to you and being able to feed and caress it is very rewarding. I can not understand being trafficked with animals for a lot of money that can be earned, it seems horrendous to kill an animal for business.

These are the other photos of our visit to Mauritius giant tortoises. Very rarely have I been so close to a non-domestic animal, let alone feeding and caressing with the tranquility we did with them. It is an unrepeatable experience.

And now what do I do? Do I buy a turtle for my son?

¿Y ahora qué hago? ¿Le compro una tortuga a mi hijo?
