Creating Layered Abstract Art with Paul Columbus - "Facetime"

in #art7 years ago (edited)

I was recently inspired to shed a little more light on the process behind creating abstract art in layers with a little help from my friend, Paul Columbus.

Paul recently posted a blog detailing his process of painting in layers that can be seen by clicking the link below.

With the success that post received here on Steemit, I decided it would be appropriate to showcase another of Paul's paintings that I had recently photographed.

Below, you can see the finished piece that Paul recently created.

We decided to create a timelapse video to show the viewer the different layers that were added to the final painting. Below you will see Paul create several different layers using a variety of colors to create the painting you see shown above.

The goal of creating this video was to have a digital keepsake of the process of creating the piece, shedding light on the layers beneath a rainbow of abstract form.

Paul's unique approach of layering different colors and patterns creates a deep sense of dimension and depth to the texture of the painting.

A mix of acrylic and spray paint creates a unique texture that stands out from the canvas.

The finished 1 of 1 painting "Face Time" is currently available for sale on Paul's website.

Def worth a follow!

Very colourful and a cool technique . Do you have to wait long between layers for the paint to dry?

It drys pretty quickly here in the Florida sun!

@dune69 Im working mostly with Acrylic and Spraypaint. Even when im using heavy texture for the acrylic at most it takes about 2 days to dry (when im really "caking it on") ;)
@jameslano is right the heat is helping alot down here in the swamp!
