A delivery in Rotterdam
Yesterday, I had to deliver some urgent blood samples at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. In Amsterdam, where I live, most people don't like Rotterdam at all. I'am not one of them because Rotterdam definitely a nice place to take some pictures.
In the second world war almost whole Rotterdam was bombed away by the Germans. As a result, Rotterdam consists mainly of modern buildings. For those who love modern architecture, it is by far the best place to visit in Holland.
Rotterdams icon is the Erasmus Bridge. This 800-metre long bridge connects the northern and southern parts of the city. The bridge has a 139-metre high steel pylon, which is secured with 40 cables. Because the shape of the pylon the bridge nickname is, The Swan.
A number of times a day, the Erasmus Bridge opens so large ships can pass.
All traffic have to wait about 15 minutes when the bridge opens.
The open bridge gives a beautiful view of Rotterdam's highest building, De Maastoren.
On the other side of the bridge is another big building, The Rotterdam.
A little further is the ss Rotterdam. The legendary former flagship of the Holland America Line. The ship now serves as a hotel and restaurant.
This is just a small selection of the many things to see in Rotterdam. For me it was time to take the tram back to my car and drive back to Amsterdam before the evening traffic started.
