A new Steemian and crypto-enthusiast

Greetings Steemians!

I'm new to the Steem community, though I've lurked a bit. I decided to join to create my first post as a result of the current digital collectible craze that's about to spark off big time in the crypto world - if you're into that sort of thing, you can read that post here: https://steemit.com/novablitz/@holothewise/digital-trading-card-games-come-to-the-block-chain-novablitz
The whole collectible/gaming world has long been a fascination for me, so combined with crypto it was a no brainer I'd be into it, right?

Ok, so other than shamelessly plugging a previous under loved post, what can I tell you about myself? Well, I'm an itenerant academic, often working in field sites in strange and remote places with dodgy internet (yes, you’ll have to forgive the lack of pictures just now. They'll be there in future posts I promise:)). I've been to some interesting places as a result, most recently six months in the Galapagos, and now in Africa, working in a place where we regularly encounter cobras and other venomous snakes (no really, if I disappear off of here, just know that I loved my time on the blue world).

So, other than recently developing a rather unhealthy crypto fixation, my history of nerdery really extends way back: I've always been that kid, the one lost in the game book or the computer or jars full of bugs. I pretty much still am that kid - I've never really grown out of it!

Getting back to the crypto world specifically, the idea of being part of a larger community involved in decentralizing and moving away from governmental controls seriously appeals to me. I know it's going to be a rocky road, but I believe the potential really is there for people to ‘get out from under the thumb’ so to speak. And I'm proud to be on the brink of a world where that is happening :). Idealistic? Yes - I've been accused of that.

Well, I look forward to participating in the Steem community and you'll probably see a lot of my posts in the nature/digital collectibles/maybe even poetry sections.
