SPONTANEOUS GARDENING!

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

Homesteading does not have to take a lot of time, effort or money. Sometimes just taking your store bought produce that is starting to go bad out to the garden and planting it in the ground is all you have to do.
If you have been following us then you know that we like to try strange and different things here on the Hewitt Homestead. We are not afraid to try something different and fail. That being said today's adventure was not necessarily anything new, it is something that people have been doing forever, but in today's commercially driven society lots of homesteaders think they need to pay top dollar for handcrafted organic heirloom top-quality seeds if they are going to be one of cool kids on the block. This is simply not the case homesteading is about being a self-sufficient as possible and living with as little need for cash as possible. Living simple as some would call it. So what is a kooky Homesteader like me supposed to do with a bag full of rotten potatoes. Well, it's time to go old school and plant that bag of trash in the garden.
Join us today as we partake in a spontaneous gardening moment.

I submitted your post to @curie. I am glad to see they selected the post as one of they gems. Keep posting those upbeat vids with the homestead and the kids!!

Thank you so much it has really helped the post gain great attention.

Like the way you roll! Chilled out opportunist!

why thank you! We love growing our own food but due to the busy lifestyle we have it is hard to spend a lot of time in the garden. Things like this really help to get the most out of our garden every year!

Know that feeling! Geesh, took me 3 days to even figure out you'd replied! I hope to find time to see more of your posts and hopefully post a bit more myself. Could certainly do with more quick gardening techniques.

Dude, this post is rockin! Congrats :)

I see that! Thank you for helping DUDE!

Great post hewetthomestead. We have thrown potatoe peels in our compost pile and grown potatoes from them. You should have a decent harvest. I know my father-in-law in southeast Texas grows red potatoes. I really enjoy the energy you bring to your videos. Check out our homestead here in Idaho and follow us @myhomesteaded. Blessings.

Well that is good to know if they can grow well in the Texas heat than they should grow well here. I would definitely check out your page and follow you guys as well. God bless

Awesome Job. I think you have the eyes on the wrong side. lol j/k

Your right they are.. take me to Youtube court!...LOL Thank you brother!

Awesome video. I don't think I've ever had red potatoes. I will look forward to your update of how much you get out of it. I'm working on regrowing some bought parsley right now because I want to see if I can get a second meal from them. Use what you've got , right?!

Awesome as always brother! Keep up the great videos!

I have done the 'take the clippings and garbage to the garden' to replant. But not potatoes- they never last long in my house.
I have done it with romaine lettuce and had decent success
