Doodling my way into Steemit~

Hello Steemit! My name is Hayleen García and I’m from Venezuela.

I recently learned about this wonderful community and I am nothing but thrilled to be part of it. Being honest, I have little experience in blogging but I believe this is the opportunity I was waiting for. I want to learn and grow with your help and in exchange, do all I can to help you too. So, what can I do to contribute to Steemit? Well, let me tell you a bit about me.

I was born in San Felipe 22 years ago, a small town from a country that even when it is beautiful, still has a long way to go. I have always been a dedicated student; however, I never had any inclination about something I really liked. Working hard can lead you far in life, but without passion, you’re not truly living.

When I was barely 14, my older sister was diagnosed with colon cancer and it was as hard and difficult as you could imagine. It was terrifying. There is nothing in life that could prepare you for a situation like that and you feel powerless and helpless in a world that you cannot fully understand. But I wanted to understand. I wanted to be able to do something about it. Thankfully, my sister got well and better times came, but this experience sowed a seed in me that would grow into a keen interest in science.

I started to cultivate this enthusiasm when I was accepted to Medical School in the University of Carabobo in 2013 and I am currently in the 5th year of my career. Science, especially biology, has made me realize of the perfectly way the human body functions and that will never cease to amaze me. There is a whole system working in synchronization inside us and we don’t even notice how actually complex it is.

Nonetheless, Medicine is it not only about science. It is about compassion, kindness and love for others. People has to be treated like what they are, human beings. There has to be a holistic approach of the patient, because they are not just their diseases, but also their environment, what they do, their family and their worries and beliefs. That is what makes medicine an art too. And this is what keeps me going.

In parallel of my career, I developed interest in different types of art to express myself. Face illness and death day by day does take its toll in you and you have to find ways to be in contact with your humanity. I found solace in poetry, photography and drawing, so this is what I will be posting mostly, but I will try to be as diverse as possible.

Spanish is my mother language; I studied both English and Portuguese during my teenage years and every day I keep learning new things thanks to them. They are a testimony of culture and traditions to which I would not have had access if I wasn’t able to speak them. With nowadays globalization, learning foreign languages offers multiple benefits in education, employment and personal experiences because it allows you to connect to people of several different backgrounds. Multilingualism will, without any doubt, lead to long-term success.

Therefore, I want to use this chance to reach people from around the entire globe and share my feelings and thoughts with you all. I know something extraordinary will come out of this ;)

¡Hola Steemit!
