Life is a 'Bummer'! How do you survive? Plus my TIP of the Day.

in #life7 years ago (edited)

What do you do when you have moved to Spain; and the money you thought you would have to buy a property is not accessible without going through the English court system to get it?  Well you don’t lie down and give up!  My long cherished ambition – writing a definitive baking book – is now well on the way thanks to Self-Publishing; and the support of my three American friends, Jenn, Moe and Sally.  They introduced me to this Genre and to Steemit.

After a lot of thought, and wanting to do a baking book which was different to anything else out there; I decided to break my vast knowledge of baking experiences and skills down into a series of books.  Each book will contain a specific area of baking, the first – Raising Agents.  Following books will be on Alternative Flours, Substitution of Ingredients, Cakes, Biscuits (Cookies),Yeast, Chocolate, Dairy, Sugar, etc.  Each book will have some history, science, techniques, and, lots of recipes; and be kept to a minimum size so you can easily transport them about.  I do hope you will follow my progress with my ‘Little Pocket Book of Baking’ series, and I will keep you informed of their development.

In the meantime, I have to make a living.  I also do crafts.  In fact, I think I must have a touch of OCD!  I am obsessive about having something on the go and I must finish it.  There are only so many items you can make for yourself and friends before they say ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

I need to make money so I have started to make bags to sell on Ebay, etc.  Myself and Jenn (who makes Jewellery), are calling ourselves 'Crafty Girls'.

I am especially impressed with how the recycled Jeans bags came out.

Comments would be much appreciated.

I am also fascinated by this forum.  I think I am going to try and post regularly with Steemit.  I have lived a long time and have a lot of knowledge which is very useful.  I am going to try and post ‘a life tip’ most days.  Please look out for them.  They will only be short but interesting and useful.  My first tip will be a ‘foodie’ one:

I hate waste!  I especially hate shelling out for something which I cannot use up before it goes off.  Ginger root is a good example.  How can you keep root ginger until you need it?  I don’t know about you but I do not use ginger root every day.  In fact, I tended to buy it when I wanted to make a curry.  The remainder went off before I needed it again.  Well …..

Tip 1

Put the whole root into a bag in the freezer.  When you need it, pull it out of the freezer and grate the amount you require, and then, put it back into the freezer for next time.  Grate it skin and all from frozen, it will be easier to grate.  The skin just disappears during cooking – magic!  No waste, and you always have root ginger in your possession.

This is the first time I have posted on my own with no help from Moe and Jenn.  Excuse the layout and especially the two pictures of my bags.....I will try and do better next time.  Adios Amegos, until the next time. X
