Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo: at the crossroads
Porsche has chosen the Geneva International Motor Show to unveil the Mission E Cross Turismo. This machine presents the vision of the German engineers on the electric mobility of tomorrow, and for them it will pass by a Crossover Urban Vehicle (CUV) with electric motorization.
The return of the crossover!
Today, we only hear about SUVs. This term, which comes from across the Atlantic, brings these new high-legged cars like a 4x4, but cut to make the road like a sedan. The best known and initiators of this fashion are the BMW X5 and Mercedes ML in the early 2000s.
It seems that for Porsche engineers this craze goes little by little in the wind for the benefit of more atypical vehicles and the crossroads between sedan, 4x4, station wagon, sports car and electric car. Their first achievement in this area is this concept car: Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo.
The designers say that the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo was designed to "lead an active lifestyle with leisure activities dedicated to travel, sports and outdoor activities" ... "Thanks to its all-wheel drive, the concept because can access any ski slope. The modular configuration of the cockpit offers plenty of space for the most varied sports equipment, and on the outside, its modern mounting system makes it easy to carry surfboards or a Porsche electric bike. "A program that says a lot about the ambitions of the firm to offer a versatile machine.
But there is always a Porsche!
A Porsche, even electric, must send us in a split second at crazy speeds. To succeed this electrifying bet, the engine manufacturers used two permanent magnet synchronous motors (PSM) capable of delivering a cumulative power of more than 600 hp.
Obviously, such a cavalry makes lightning speak with a successful TOP 100 in 3.5 seconds, while the 0 to 200 km / h requires less than 12 seconds. Added to the power is a steady state of a new level for an all-electric model: it is possible to chain several accelerations without loss of power. Combined with the technology of variable Torque Vectoring torque distribution, the all-wheel drive would provide a driving force suited to any driving situation.
The electric cavalry of the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo needs a high-level energy storage system. To do this, they use a rechargeable lithium-ion battery of very high capacity that offers a range of about 500 km (European driving cycle - NEDC). By going through an architecture at 800 volts, it only takes him 15 minutes to offer 400 km of additional road. But the Mission E Cross Turismo can also be loaded at the workplace by induction, and at home thanks to a charging station or the Porsche home energy management system. This system makes it possible in particular to use solar energy produced by a domestic photovoltaic installation.
A low bonnet between two pronounced curved wings: the front of the Mission E Cross Turismo displays from the start its affiliation with the Porsche 911, the icon of sports cars. The silhouette is distinguished by a sporty roofline and inflected rearward: the famous "flyline" dear to Porsche designers. The lines of the new concept car are reminiscent of the rear of the Panamera Sport Turismo. The typical Porsche aesthetic is also reflected in the resolutely dynamic design of the side windows. The width of the wings and the relief of the flanks, with outlets placed behind the front wheels, reinforce the sporting character of this crossover of 1.99 m wide. The 20-inch wheels with 275/40 R 20 tires and off-road style side skirts also contribute to the strong personality of the Mission E Cross Turismo.
The four-wheel steering contributes to the exemplary handling and stability of the vehicle. The adaptive air suspension increases the ground clearance by up to 50 mm. The Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) system is also available for active stabilization of roll movements and correction of bank angles when cornering. This system also reduces lateral oscillations on rough terrain.
