En otras oportunidades, les he comentado sobre mi visita a la Colonia Tovar y también he compartido fotografías que tome en ese hermoso pueblito ubicado en el Municipio Tovar al norte del Estado Aragua, Venezuela, y que fue fundada en 1843 por un grupo de inmigrantes alemanes provenientes del entonces independiente estado de Baden. Las fotografías que en esta ocasión les compartiré corresponden a su bella iglesia, nombrada San Martín de Tours.

On other occasions, I have told you about my visit to Colonia Tovar, and I have shared photographs that I took in that beautiful little town located in the municipality of Tovar in northern Aragua State, Venezuela, and that was founded in 1843 by a group of immigrants. Germans from the then independent state of Baden. The photographs that I will share with you on this occasion correspond to its beautiful church, named San Martín de Tours.
Este edificio religioso perteneciente a la Iglesia Católica, fue construido, por los colonos en solo cuatro meses desde su llegada y por pedido de Alejandro Benitz, cofundador de la Colonia Tovar. En la construcción de la obra participaron todos los colonos, quienes fueron dirigidos por Mathias Eckert y Sebastian Futterer carpinteros y Jacobo Ruh maestro albañil. Para la edificación de la iglesia, se usó el sistema "entramado de vigas de madera", en el caso de las paredes estas se realizaron en bahareque y el techo de palmiche. Una vez culminada el 28 de agosto de 1843, fue consagrada a San Martín de Tours y la imagen que colocaron en su interior, fue una de San Martín que habían traído de Endingen, Kaiserstuhl.
This religious building belonging to the Catholic Church was built by the settlers in only four months from their arrival and at the request of Alejandro Benitz, co-founder of Colonia Tovar. In the construction of the work all the colonists participated, who were directed by Mathias Eckert and Sebastian Futterer carpenters and Jacobo Ruh master mason. For the construction of the church, the system was used "framework of wooden beams", in the case of the walls these were made in bahareque and the roof of palmiche. Once completed on August 28, 1843, it was consecrated to San Martín de Tours and the image that was placed inside it was one of San Martín that had been brought from Endingen, Kaiserstuhl.
A través de los años esta edificación religiosa, fue ampliada y modificada en varias oportunidades. Una de estas modificaciones fue realizada en 1862, esta se debió, al considerable estado de deterioro en que se encontraba, razón por la cual los colonos decidieron construir en el mismo sitio una nueva iglesia, en esta oportunidad, la paredes fueron levantadas usando de base el sistema de entramado de madera, el cual fue rellenado con ladrillos y el techo fue recubierto con tejas de madera.
Over the years, this religious building was expanded and modified several times. One of these modifications was made in 1862, this was due to the considerable state of deterioration in which he was, reason why the settlers decided to build a new church in the same place, in this opportunity, the walls were raised using the base the wooden framework system, which was filled with bricks and the roof was covered with wooden tiles.
Otra remodelación importante fue realizada en el año 1918, en esa ocasión el padre benedictino Juan Paul Dobbert, decidió mandar a construir una torre del campanario totalmente nueva. Posteriormente el carpintero Juan Breidenbach con la ayuda de sus hijos construyeron una nueva torre octogonal de madera en el año 1953, la construcción se realizó, siguiendo los planos que había preparado Richard Aretz en 1940 y que se inspiraba en Freundestadt en la Selva Negra alemana. Cuatro años después en 1957, perpendicular a la primera nave, se construye una segunda nave, también basándose en los planos Aretz. La estructura actual de las dos torres, basada en concreto fueron realizada en 1981, la torre principal, finalmente en 1983 se hizo lo mismo con la otra torre.
Another important remodeling was carried out in 1918, on that occasion the Benedictine father, John Paul Dobbert, decided to order the construction of a totally new bell tower. Later the carpenter Juan Breidenbach with the help of his sons built a new octagonal wooden tower in 1953, the construction was made, following the plans prepared by Richard Aretz in 1940 and inspired by Freundestadt in the German Black Forest. Four years later in 1957, perpendicular to the first ship, a second ship was built, also based on the Aretz plans. The current structure of the two towers, based on concrete was made in 1981, the main tower, finally in 1983 it was done with the other tower.
Esta hermosa capilla declarada Monumento Histórico Nacional en 1994, se encuentra ubicada en el centro del pueblo, justo al frente de la Plaza Bolívar. A nivel arquitectónico, se diferencia notoriamente, no solo, de las otras que se encuentran en el estado Aragua, sino incluso, de las del resto de Venezuela, y esto se debe a su estructura germánica, basada en armadura de madera, sus típicos colores blanco y negro, con techo rojo, los cuales son característicos de todas las construcciones de este hermoso pueblito aragüence.
This beautiful chapel, declared a National Historic Monument in 1994, is located in the center of the town, just in front of Plaza Bolívar. At the architectural level, it differs notoriously, not only, from the others found in the Aragua state, but even from the rest of Venezuela, and this is due to its Germanic structure, based on wooden armor, its typical colors black and white, with red roof, which are characteristic of all the constructions of this beautiful village aragüence.
