Overwatch BEAT Invitational - Season 2 Immortals vs CLG

The BEAT Invitational season 2 stated today. This tournament, sponsored by Twitch, is considered a minor tournament with a $6,000 prize pool.

This tournament has something VERY special going for it. To the naked eye it might just look like another small Overwatch tournament. It's not. The prize pool is small, yeah I get it. It's not about that. The hidden gem in this tournament is the fact that we might be able to see Immortals, the winners of Contenders season 0, versus Rogue, considered by most the #1 team in NA, battle it out in the finals.

This is HUGE!!

The tournament stared today with Immortals beating Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) 3-1. I will be covering that match in this article with the rest of Immortals matches throughout the tournament.

Here we go.

Immortals vs CLG - CLG wins map 3-1
Game 1 Lijiang Tower

Starting off in the market map Immortals having a hard time keeping Kariv alive as Zynyatta allowing CLG to take control first. CLG running the pharmacy looking quite good against this very strong Immortals team. Immortals resets leading in with Agilities on Gengi with a Dragon Blade ready to go. Immortals dives the point Dragon Blade adding a lot of pressure they take control from CLG at 69%. Immortals end up holding point winning 100% to 69%. Earning the map win.

Round 2 on the garden map, Both teams running the Pharmacy comp with Immortals Kariv on Mercy and Agilities on Pharah. CLG getting early control, slow playing and stalling Immortals, taking it all the way to 98% before Immortals could gain control of the point. Immortals lose control at 56%, trying to hold on in overtime, they get pushed off the point allowing CLG to win the map.

Round 3 on Control Center both teams flanking DPS make it hard for either team to get control. CLG finally get point control playing very coordinated firing on all cylinders making Immortals look flustered and unorganized. CLG takes it to 99%, Immortals trying to hold on in overtime but just can't put it together. CLG wins this map.

Round 4, back in garden map, both teams running pharmacy once again CLG take control first. Immortals just can't slow CLG down. CLG hold all the way to 100% to win the map and wins game 1 of this best of 5.

Game 2 - Kings Row immortals win map

Immortals beginning on defence with both teams running dive comps. Great play by Immortals holding first point all the way into overtime. The final fight was a battle of the ultimates. CLG diving hard even after losing both support from a perfectly placed Pulse Bomb from Grimmreality's Tracer. CLG gets first point and now jump on the payload heading into the streets phase of this map. With so much time spent trying to get first point CLG had to keep that payload going to try to get second point before time runs out. Immortals put up a great hold just before CLG reaches second point stopping the cart in its tracks ending this round. All immortals had to do now is push the payload just past that point to get the win for this game.

The teams switch sides, Immortals on offence now. CLG holds first point through the first couple team fights. Agilities gets Dragon Blade, dives in and facilitates a team kill on CLG, cap'ing first point. Immortals pushed the payload steadily past CLG' s mark to get the win for this game tying the match 1-1.

Game 3 - Route 66 Immortals win map

Immortals start out on offence, pushing that payload hard, getting a team kill on CLG, and cap'ing first point confidently. Immortals punishing the dive from CLG easily taking second point. Wow! Immortals stomping CLG, looking like they have found their groove taking the payload all the way capturing 3rd point to finish the map.

Immortals on defence with the dive comp just not working for Immortals in first phase. CLG pushing the payload past first point into second phase. CLG almost to second point when Agilities pops a Dragon Blade getting a 3 kill forcing CLG to reset allowing immortals to push the payload back a little. CLG regroup and end up taking second point pushing hard to third point but Immortals puts the stop on them giving Immortals the win for game 3. Immortals 2-1 in this best of 5.

**Game 4 - Ilios Immortals win 3-1 **

Starting off in light house both teams running pharmacy. Unlike game 1 king of the hill, Immortals begin this by taking control first. Agilities putting in work in the air with Pharah while Grimm is adding a lot of pressure with Tracer on the ground. Immortals takes the control percentage all the way to 98% before CLG' s Pharah, Hydration, busts out a barrage in the face of Immortals allowing CLG to take control. They take it all the way to 95% before Immortals flips it back to get the map win.

Round 2 takes us to the well map. Once again Immortals takes control first, punishing CLG players who find themselves out of position. At 99% CLG takes control from Immortals. They then take it all the way to 99% now into overtime. Both teams brawling in out but Immortals edges out CLG to win the map.

Round 3 in ruins map, Immortals running dive against CLG' s pharmacy. Immortals take control first as Grimmreality puts on a Tracer clinic. Hydration, on CLG, puts a Rocket Barrage Pharah ult in Immortals front line helping CLG take control. It doesn't take immortals long to get control back. Both teams flip point in their favor, back and forth. CLG end up taking it at the end for the map win.

Round 4 on well map. Hydration gets an instant 3 kills with his outstanding Pharah play allowing CLG to take control first. Realising that if they don't win the match will be over, CLG holds control to 100% for the map win.

Round 5 back on ruins, Immortals take point first with a strong dive comp. CLG take point from Immortals at 21%. Battling hard and trying to close this match out, Immortals take back control at 99%. Just barely holding on Immortals win the map giving them the 3-1 win over CLG.

What a great match between CLG and Immortals. Immortals now moves to semi finals against Envision.

I will cover that match in my next article. See you then.

Cool idea to share how the games went for us that are not able to see them live!

CLG running the pharmacy looking quite good against this very strong Immortals team.

Just a question, is "pharmacy" a certain kind of comp set-up? Just want to be sure i get everything right.

Love OW, as i said, awesome idea :D

You sir just gained a follower!

Thanks for the follow! Pharmacy is just two characters in a comp. It is a Pharah and Mercy combo.

I have a lot of really cool stuff in the works for upcoming articles. I hope you enjoy. Have a great day!!

All the best,

I will follow with excitement, thanks for explaining! :)

I'm really into the backrground graphics of the scenes shown. It looks realistic and also animated at the same time, which is cool. What game console are these games on, PC?

Overwatch is on PC, PS4, and XBOX. These pictures are from PC. The game maker is Blizzard and they are the best in the industry when it comes to graphics. They were doing stuff 10 years ago that nobody is doing today. Go watch the World of Warcraft trailers that stuff will blow your mind! Take care.
