Calling all Alabama Stoners! Birmingham, group organizing largest public cannabis smoke out ever.
This seems like one of those, come and get your free TV at the police station and bring your old parking ticket schemes. Particularly since the organizer is not going to be there and in fact out of the country.
"BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A group of activists in Birmingham are calling on more than 1,000 stoners to show up and light up publicly July 17th.
Carlos Chaverst Jr. is one of the people leading the charge.
Chaverst says he wants cannabis decriminalized to help with issues that affect millions, including prison reform and medical marijuana use.
As far as the threat of being arrested, Chaverst has a plan in place:
"If there's many more of us, they ain't taking everybody to jail. They may take some and we're going to raise money too for the ones they do take to jail, so we can make sure that everybody is out," said Chaverst.
Chaverst says while his fellow organizers will be smoking weed publicly come July 17th, he however, will be out of town...and the country, in fact.
The event's location will be announced just hours before it happens. This is a B-Y-O-W event, but the Decriminalize Bham Action Committee might provide free rolling paper, according to Chaverst.

The Decriminalize Bham Action Committee is hosting the Decriminalize Bham Smoke Out on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 6:30pm. For security and safety reasons, the location will be announced the day of. We are expecting more than 1000 of Birmingham’s stoners to participate.
Each year, thousands of innocent men and women are arrested and incarcerated for low level cannabis possession. We are asking Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin to join other cities across the country by decriminalizing cannabis within the Birmingham city limits. Doing so will reduce the number of non-violent offenders, keep our jails and prisons from overcrowding and increases stability within the local economy.
