Opal is one of the stones that I like the most and that's the reason why I'm creating these handmade rings, using the technique of macrame, with waxed thread. I love creating them and sharing my creations with you, my dear Steemians

Opal is a mineraloid, since it belongs to the silicate group. Even though it's composition is almost the same as quartz, opal reflects the light, since it has small molecules of water in it, which form tiny lines of silicon dioxide, causing the light to be reflected from the inside of the stone. It's name comes from the sanscrit "upala" which means "gemstone", it is a very valuable stone in jewelry, being appreciated since ancient times by different cultures such as the roman empire, the greek, the arabs, and also native tribes in the Americas and Australia.

It's the birthstone for the sign of Libra, it is a stone that is associated with love and passion and it's used to enhance visions and meditation.

Hindu Legend
The three gods of Hindu trinity: Brahma (god of creation), Vishnu (god of the wind) and Shiva (god of destruction) were in love with the same woman, so the eternal god punished them by transforming the woman into a spirit in the mountains, but the gods of the hindu trinity didn't want to lose sight of her, so each one of them gifted her with a color: Brahma gave her the blue color of the sky, Vishnu gave her the golden glow and Shiva gave her the red of the fire. However the spirit of the woman suffered among the winds of the mountains, so the eternal god, turned her into an opal, thus immortalizing her in the beautiful stone and protecting her from the mountain winds.

Ring with multi color opal

I love this opal, it's glow reflects the seven colors of the rainbow, despite it's white-ish tone, reflecting different colors in different angles.

  • There are different varieties of opal, such as fire opal which shines in red, orange and green tones, this type of opal is very common in Mexico, that is where all my opal come from.
