How to LET IT GO

in #life7 years ago (edited)

How DO YOU let it go when someone hurts your feelings?

Holding onto anger and resentment hurts you more than the person you are "holding" it for. The sooner you let it go the more peace and enjoyment you will have in your life. Let's use a little Disney Frozen inspo to guide us!

Let yourself experience the pain.

Emotions are a natural experience and should not be labeled as wrong or be hid from, let them flow in and back out without repressing or latching on. It’s okay to feel pain, and in the human experience it is both unavoidable and necessary.

Express yourself.

Express your feeling, if not to the person who hurt you, to a close friend, out loud to yourself or by writing a letter. Just get it out of your mind and avoid ruminating about it.

Take responsibility for your emotions.

Don’t give your power away, take responsibility for own happiness and realize you choose how you react. Allowing someone else to consume your mind and not claiming responsibility over your own emotions is giving your power away and taking a victim stance, this will lead you to feel even more hurt and helpless.

It’s not always about you.

Realize that often when people do or say hurtful things it says more about them than about you. Some people live their lives in pain and lash out at undeserving people around them. Depersonalize their actions and see it from a place of empathy/kindness.

Look at it in a new way.

Realize sometimes there is no right or wrong but just a matter of perception. Sometimes feelings can be hurt when there is no malice involved, simply a misunderstanding of communication. Try looking at it from an objective standpoint and see if it changes the way you perceive the incident.

Make the choice.

Realize that it’s in your power to let it go, it’s your choice. Make the conscious choice to let it go.

Live your life!

Live in the moment, understand life is a series of moments and you don't have to live in the past ones. If you spend all your time looking back you will miss the now.

Forgive.

Forgive them and set yourself free. Forgiving doesn't mean what someone else did was right, it means your not willing to live in pain because of it.

Embrace and learn.

Embrace all parts of your existence, not just the ones you consider pleasant. Every situation, joyful or hurtful, helps you grow, become strong, and wiser. Use it as an opportunity to get to know yourself better and learn from the experience.

“ In the process of letting go you will lose many things from the past, but you will find yourself.” Deepak Chopra

💙 thank you for sharing. I wish my niece would understand this, she has so much pain. She really needs to forgive.

It can be such a journey to learning forgiveness and being able to let go of pain... even if we have done it in the past each new pain can take its own time till we are able to release it... What really helped me was becoming familiar with some Buddhist philosophies, there is one quote I found super insightful in that regard “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”
It made me realize holding onto the pain was allowing the people who hurt me in the past to continue to do so. I didn't want that old pain and those toxic people to continue to control me so I learned to release that pain.... it can be hard watching people you love struggle with pain.. really hope she can find peace 💓

Really enjoyed your post <3 I read it twice because I needed to reinforce this as a reminder for myself!

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it 🐻💓

Your welcome! Thanks so much for upvoting & resteeming!!! 🐻💓💓💓

The chronic avoidance of pain, including strong feelings, can lead to addiction and even more pain.
