Figuring Out Segira's Adventure

Alright, so the Segira alpha's postponed again.

This is not necessarily good, but it's not necessarily bad either.

Right now what I've got for an adventure looks more like a campaign frame, and it's so open-ended and meaningless that it's got a lot of problems with it.

Basically, the whole point of a core-rulebook adventure is to showcase your game's elements and have everything work well enough that a novice GM can get a feel for it.

What I've got both doesn't resonate with me as a story (which is problem number 1), and doesn't do any of that (which is problem number 2).

The first problem is part of the reason why we keep having delays.

To flash back to my college days, I had one paper due in one of my freshman English classes where my professor literally took me aside and said "I can tell that writing this paper has been really awful for you." or something along those lines. She had me scrap the whole thing and start over with a different prompt, which was really a relief because up to that point I'd been hitting a brick wall.

I don't even remember what the original paper was about, but I wound up writing my second paper on digital surveillance, sousveillance, and transhumanism in fiction, based largely on Posthuman Studio's Panopticon (affiliate link) supplement for Eclipse Phase with some additional sources.

I don't know if the second paper was really all that much better than the first (other than, of course, the fact that I was able to devote more energy to it), but it was certainly easier.

I think I've mentioned before that this is the second adventure I've worked on for Segira. The first was just too grim-dark, and this is too vacuous, so I'm thinking I may postpone it a bit while I finish up Hwaet!

Unlike Segira, Hwaet is a mini-game, so it should only take a week or two worth of work.

Speaking of which, Hwaet is using the Resistance Toolkit, the same rules used in the excellent Spire (affiliate link) by Rowan, Rook, and Decard.

Another reason why I mention this is that Strata, a Spire RPG sourcebook, is now on Kickstarter! I'm in a bit of a tight spot with Genship Exiles eating up most of my disposable income, but I backed at a digital tier and I highly suggest that people who enjoy Spire do so as well. RRD's got a good track record, and there are some delectable ideas floating around in their heads.

Oh yeah, by the way, I sent off another contract for more Genship Exiles stuff today. I'm getting really hyped about it.
