Bug Out Bits: Bugging out is not camping # 5 and 6

in #survival6 years ago

So, what’s the difference between bugging out, camping, and long distance hiking? Lets take a look inside Squirrel Bait’s mind. I warn you, it can be a scary place. Bugging out is a treacherous, scary, and difficult thing to do!

5.

You can freely chat and communicate while camping and hiking. Sing even. During a bug out, absolute silence is required. Again, you have to worry about other people. Hand signals will be the way to go.

Speaking of silent travel….Bears. Yes bears. Moving silently increases the odds of a surprise bear encounter.

AND

6.

Sleeping can be difficult during normal outdoor adventures but not like in a bug out. Many people bring blow up mattresses with them camping and snoring is not an issue just embarrassing. During a bug out, snoring will get you killed (discovered) and no luxury sleep equipment. There’s no fire to comfort you and no peace to fall into.

howdy this fine Monday squirrelbait! wow bears. I forgot about bears. If you're quiet enough you will surprise them? and then what do you do? does your dad ever run into them?

Howdy partner! Dad hasn't run into any bears but he had a close encounter with a mountain lion. Says he was packed and gone in 10 minutes.

Bears have terrible vision. They have a great sense of smell but if you are down wind approaching you can startle one if they can't hear you. You come around a corner and wham there it is. Or it's napping in thick brush or whatever. A startled bear is a defensive bear. Start off by backing up slowly speaking softly and give the bear an opportunity to leave. Handling bear encounters is another post by an expert (not me).

but you sound like an expert to me, I think that would be a great post!

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Wise words...Yep, people will be unsurpisingly surprised.

Hey, I just noticed....thanks for resteeming!

Happy Monday @preppervetuk! Do you have bears there?

I believe there used to be bears here in the U.K. Hundreds of years ago, but not any more...

Lucky you. We have bears, wolves, coyote, moose, and mountain lions to deal with depending on the part of the country. Just imagine surviving the event itself and other people just to get trampled to death by a territorial male moose!

Very True - That would be tragic and dDefinately a case to carry a firearm.
