Sundays Are Spiritual Because The Noise Is Quieted And You Can Observe Yourself

in #sunday6 years ago

Jay Shetty got away from the “noise” on social media, turned off the highlight reels of gorgeous bodies on Instagram and and career milestones on Facebook, because they create depression, envy and jealousy and bad competition between people. We are consuming a life time of experiences in one day on the computer and our expectations get out of hand.

Jay tells how he looked inside himself to discover what he wanted to become in the quietness. He went from troubled youth to becoming a monk. This former monk explains the process in the video below:

Fast Forward 10 Years Ahead in Your Life

The actions you take now will improve your life ten years from now. They will help you see where you will end up if you stay on the same path in 10 years time says Jay. Ask yourself “is that where I want to be?”

If you don’t like where you’re heading ask:

"Do I need new experiences and new role models?"

He says yes! it is too difficult to overhaul yourself while remaining in your current circle and easier to change your circle now to be in a better place ten years from now.

Jay says you need the Head, Heart, and Hand to fulfill your purpose.

The Head ~ to figure out what you want in your mind.

The Heart ~ to understand with compassion and care.

The Hand ~ to serve. Once you find your passion, the purpose of your passion is to serve and make someone else happy.

You get trapped in the perception of yourself which comes from what other people think of you. This quote by Charles Cooley talks about that:

“Today I’m not what I think I am, I’m not what you think I am, I am what I think You think I am.”**

This is a perfect way of expressing that we live in our perceptions in our minds. If you think I’m successful, then I am successful, and I am assuming that you think I am successful because I don’t really know what you think. But it is more important what I think about myself and I am the only one who truly knows what I want.

If we all followed our true talents, and blocked out the noise of what our parents or society want us to do, as hard as that is, we would all discover the genius that exists inside of us.

We are not our bodies or our possessions, we are consciousness, we have a soul and it knows where it wants to be if we can cut out all the noise around us and hear what it is trying to tell us. We will find where we want to be.

Bad Competition versus Good Competition

We are not in a bad competition with everyone else but in what Shetty calls a good competition with everyone else, each inspiring and motivating and supporting others to self actualize.

We are the observers of our lives. As Shetty points out detachment doesn’t mean that you don’t own any possessions, but that nothing owns you.

If you want to find your purpose in life, you need the competition of other people in a supportive circle. As Shetty says: “you can’t be what you can’t see. If you want to be a billionaire, expose yourself to billionaires, because you will get a glimpse of their lifestyle and then you can decide if it is a good fit for you.

Billionaires are constantly working their brands and getting up at 4am to catch a plane to go to another city to meet with total strangers and sell themselves. Does that sound exciting or exhausting to you?

On this quiet Sunday, may you discover the genius that lives inside you, see others who are being the type of person that you want to be, and become someone who finds and shares your purpose.

That's cool. I like how he says fast forward your life 10 years. What a great way to look at what you are doing today and where you are going.

Lovely. Now you know why I hang out with monks! 😬

Haha! Yes, so many cool ideas to put into practice!
