The 2-Sentence Short Story Slam # 1 - Contest and Theme

in #story7 years ago

How's 10 Steem sound, for a two sentence short story? Too good to be true? Well, there are so many talented authors here so it may sound easier than it is to win, but three Steemians will win 10 Steem! Will it be you?

Theme: Sci-fi and Blockchain

This first contest is dedicated to my favorite genre: Sci-fi. There's so much we've learned from the imaginative writings of the sci-fi greats. Lately, I've really been enjoying trying to imagine our blockchain future and have been into #blockchainfiction.

So for this contest, you must write a 2 sentence short story with the above theme.

Simple Rules:

Post your 2 sentence short story in the comments of this post where I can keep an eye on it.

At the end of the post payout window, I'll pick three winning stories, and their authors will receive 10 Steem each. To put that into perspective, back in July 2016, 10 Steem would've been worth northwards of 50 USD.

(please note: I have a tendency to also award honorable mentions with some Steem, so don't be surprised if that happens here)

It's not a requirement, but voting this post up and resteeming does help share the love, and makes it more fun.
And if you haven't already, check out some of the Blockchain Fiction I've been posting over the last few days and give a vote and a comment! Blockchain Explorer Series (Fiction).

In the year 2020, a problematic looping smart contract was identified inside the main frame of the Large Hadron Collider. Little was known until its parameters revealed its own architecture.

That sounds like the beginning of an epic "Contact" like story!

Thank you, @prufarchy, for this stimulating challenge! I'm throwing my hat into the ring. Here's my entry for your consideration:

"The breakthrough we techno-historical archivists had been waiting for was the result of the serendipitous synergy of two diverse singularities, namely, the appearance of transcendently intelligent A/I, and the advent of the D-Wave64 64k-qubit quantum computer."

"Combining the two, we were finally able to reconstruct the missing cryptographic links in the ancient blockchains with sufficient accuracy to determine the True Name and Identity of Satoshi Nakamoto."

😄😇😄

@creatr

I would read the entire story, and would hope it's 1500 pages long. The techno-historical archivists idea reminds me of the Psychohistorians in Foundation.

Also, imagine gaming on a quantum computer, or running nicehash??

Thanks for the encouraging comment!

I don't know whether I could know that I couldn't match Asimov's stamina, writing thousands of pages and hundreds of books in his lifetime... However, I'd put forth a good effort to make reading the "novel length" version worth your while... :D

"And when I wake up from the cryogenic sleep the first thing I do is ask about the Blockchain, if it still existed. When someone tells me that the previous day had been mined the last Bitcoin my eyes are closing slowly, a smile comes to my mouth and I die."

Haha, I love it! I think if I came back and could only ask one question, it would be "Did the empire fall yet?"

Welcome to the short story slam!

:D I would ask something different too hehehe, but Blockchain was the main point ;)
Glad you like it!

Great point haha. I think I'd be happy enough to die knowing that blockchain survived, and changed it all... if I was a cryo-pop :)

Father's will indicated my inheritance was buried under the oak tree at the end of the drive. I dug up three metal containers, each filled with obsolete currency featuring pictures of Presidents.

note: after a brief sabbatical I have returned to steemit, if you have time check out my new work.

Love your story! :) :D

Entry A (happy):

"HOW much did you spend, uploading a scan of your brain to the blockchain?"
"Why not? As long as the blockchain lives, so shall I."

Entry B (depressing):

Your child's brain dump has been encrypted. 300 BTC to get it back.

(N.B. I don't think brain uploading is possible, but it makes great science fiction.)

Hi again, @prufarchy,

As your rules do not explicitly specify whether or not multiple entries are allowed, here is a secondary entry from me:

Looks interesting.
You go first.

😄😇😄

@creatr

Yup, I definitely did not put limits on how many stories people could write :) I'm really glad you shared this 2-sentence short story, it's really good and gave me a much needed laugh as I deal with salespeople.

Just realized that I didn't address the "blockchain" element of the sci-fi theme.
Here's my revised version:

The New Teleportation Machine

"Proof of Continuity" looks interesting...
You go first.

I'm smiling now, to think that I gave you a good laugh today! :D

So, I'm also now curious... What kind of sales people do you deal with in your daily endeavors? :)

The advertising kind. They're usually selling packages to clients that don't exist and then blaming me and mine for not being able to provide the execution for said non-existing items.

I call it the circle of strife haha

Hahahah...

Thanks for the partial enlightenment. Good luck with the salespeople today! :)

First off, just wanted to say great contest idea !!Here is my story.

I woke up to the loud sound of luggage falling from the compartment above me as well as the voice of a flight attendant shouting, "stay seated and keep calm".

People are screaming as we get higher and higher until we crash into the sky, glass is falling all around us, water then surrounds us which breaks through the windows and starts filling the plane.

That's a surreally sublime sci-fi short story ;)

Thanks for being a part of the contest!

Returning to earth from an epic 1000 year space odyssey only to find no traces whatsoever of our civilization. After searching for day the only man-made object to be found was steel block made from chains, captain is that one of those blockchains from the past.

Imagine all the info you might get out of a steel block like that...

Thanks for the story :)

Thanks for the opportunity to enter into your futuristic contest.

Haha not quite sci fi or original but definitely spooky! Thanks!

i won't win.. just kicking off the party.
Clearly someone will grasp the idea.
Not everyone here is a writer. I know I am not.

Hey I enjoyed it! Thanks for participating and taking the time

Its been awhile since I have hung out on Steemit
Nice to see your still doing contests!

"Captain, The Blockchain, It's broken! It's leaking... Blocks... Everywhere!"
"Scotty, Get Ahold of Yousel--" Just then, a mechanical voice began " 3.. 2.. 1..."

First off, so great to see you! I was away a bit for a while too but yeah, I can't stay away from giveaways for too long, poetry or otherwise.

Second, what in the heck is your blockchain running!?! I wonder what a blockchain block would feel like... physically. Probably like a CD rack, I imagine ;)

Thanks for your 2-sentence, sci-fi short story!
