It was by now dark. He started walking towards number thirteen Bukki Street. This would be about five minutes walk. As it was now dark most of the houses had their lights switched on. Just as he rounded the bend that led to number thirteen, a car drove past him. He could not quite make out the occupants of the car but he could dimly make out the outline of a man in the driver's seat, a woman in the front seat and some other occupants at the back seat. The occupants did not see him since he was in an unlit area of the street.

When the car had passed, he continued on his mission. He was almost at number thirteen now. On arrival at number thirteen, he was surprised to notice that the whole house was engulfed in darkness. There was no sign of anyone inside. The gate was also under lock and key. He knocked at the gate but there was no response. Instead, someone emerged from the house adjacent to number thirteen. It was Mr. Ibe whom he knew so well. When he saw Obioha, he smiled.

"Oh, it is you my son, how do you do?" he greeted as he extended his hands to Obioha for a handshake, but the latter ignored him.

"Fine!" he answered curtly. "I am looking for the occupants of this house," he said pointing at the houe.

"Oh, you didn't know?" he asked, looking critically at him. He saw the scar by the dim light provided by the light from his own house. "What happened to you?" he asked.

"What was I supposed to know about this family?" he asked, instead.

"Ah, they just left for the airport. They are moving to South Africa."

"What?!" he screamed.

"They left not quite long ago; you would have seern them had you been here five minutes earlier," Mr Ibe said.

Obioha felt like crying like a child. How could he have missed those idiots, he thought.

"Were they in a white car?" he asked.

Mr Ibe noticed his disappointment from his looks.

"Yes, were you planning to go with them?" he asked.

Obioha gave him a look that made him shift back in fear. Mr Ibe saw the bulk in his hip pocket and retreated farther towards his house.

"Goodnight," Mr Ibe said abruptly and entered his house, locking his gate with a firm click.

Obioha was filled with intense rage and frustration. He thought over what Mr Ibe had said about going to the airport and decided to track Tony and his family down to the airport. He left the place, running. He got to the bus stop and boarded a bus heading towards the road leading to the airport.
