The Broken Hearted Writing Contest - "When Love Poisoning One's Mind" @tpkidkai

Nothing can compare to the feeling being in love, it’s a kind of unexplainable feeling and mostly unstoppable emotion, but what if you end up broken?

We all have that experiences that really teach us and guide us for wiser decision in the future. Here, I will share the story of my close friend (Rio) who encounters downfall in his life.

Being the eldest, at the young age, Rio was already conscious enough about struggles in life. He serves as parents to his 3 siblings. His mother died during the delivery of his youngest brother while his father is prisoner due to drug issues. We are friends since first-year high school, I first met him, in a science a club. Rio is a smart and diligent student, in fact, he is a barangay scholar. He and his siblings stay in his uncle’s house where they are accommodated very well. His uncle is a seafarer and visits them every year. Also, the one who supports their living but it’s not enough since his uncle also have family and his 3 siblings also are attending school and have many expenses. So, he takes part-time tutorials after our class and accepting pays for projects and assignments.

I and Rio are close friends since that time, I also help him in his tutorials and any other doings he does for gaining extra money. He is a kind guy, responsible and diligent, so it’s not surprising when many girls crush on him. But his focus is only on studies and his family. He is very popular in school and also very competitive in every competitions and activity in school. We are buddies and even treat each other as brothers, modesty aside, I and Rio are top achievers in our class.

Until such time, a girl came in his life, actually, she’s one of Rio’s student in his tutorial, and she’s beautiful, gorgeous and kind. At first, I think they are just friends since, But later on, Rio admitted that they already in the relationship, and I will not surprise anymore since that girl is so perfect for him, in fact, she is our campus muse. That time, we are 3rd-year high school. Rio and I are consistent achiever since the first year, but after a quarter, Rio’s performance was declined and He now does cutting classes as a result his grades dropped. So I talk to him, about what happened, and try to convince him. But he totally changed and even his siblings and uncle are speechless about him. They tried to convince him, but, his MIND is already POISON with LOVE. Months passed by, her girlfriend got Pregnant and pressures him to marry her, but it’s not lawful since Rio is 17 years old at that time. At that young age Rio became a father for a short period of time, because his child died 4 months after birth due to heart failure, he stopped his studies, her girlfriend left him, every one of his family including his sibling abandons him, and decided to go to his uncle family in the city. Rio lost Everything!. Like his father, Rio engaged in drugs and wasted his talent, gifted mind. Until he got jailed.

While writing this story, it’s been 3 years ago, that he was released from jail. I heard that He take an ALS program (ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEM) by the government and continue his journey in a better roadway. And in my case, I’m about to finish my 5th-year degree in Electronics Engineering.

Sharing this story with you guys is like a self-satisfaction, because I know, especially to youngsters, that this story can serve as a lesson for you.
