The World of Shadows - Chapter 19 (Dark Paranormal Fantasy Story) (Only 2 Chapters Left!)

CHAPTER 19

The veil that surrounded the dark creature vanished.

“No!” screamed Arthur. Tears raced down his face as he struggled to make his way over to her. The dark creature cackled wildly as it watched Arthur. Arthur collapsed onto the lifeless body in tears. He shook as he lay on his beloved partner. His faith in their mission vanished entirely. This was the person he was supposed to spend his life with. This was the woman he was supposed to grow old with. But now, the love of his life was dead. He held her tightly, and the two of them lay on the floor together. He thought about that morning, when he looked into her eyes. He thought about the night before. He thought about the day he first met little Beatrix, and how over the years he grew to love her more and more. The darkest and deepest devastation consumed his whole being. To Arthur, even though the creature hadn’t completed the hex yet, his world had already ended.

The creature’s laughter subsided into a soft chuckle. It walked up to Arthur and stood next to him.

“Savurious, can you get someone in here to clean up this mess?” said the dark creature, pointing at Beatrix. “Clean that one up too,” he said, pointing at the puddle of dark liquid.

“Sure thing, sir,” said a man in the doorway.

Arthur looked at the doorway and saw a tiny spider sitting next to it. He watched the spider scurry toward them. The dark creature stood looking down at the lifeless body on the floor.

In one swift movement, a green light flashed in the room where the spider sat, followed by a powerful bang that shook the castle walls. The spider had transformed into Beatrix, who was hovering above the floor. Dark red thorn vines burst from her and wrapped around the dark creature. She waved her arm, and Arthur was pulled across the room toward her. Beatrix muttered something, and they were surrounded by a glittering bubble. With a loud scream, she sent out a shockwave of energy from herself, knocking down sections of walls and causing the grand hall’s ceiling to fall in. Arthur watched a large piece of the architecture fall straight above and explode on contact with the bubble that surrounded them.

Hatred filled Beatrix’s heart. “You are done! I will not allow you to hurt anyone ever again!” she screamed. Tears fell from her face, and, with a final burst of energy, a bright white flash of light filled the room. When the light subsided, a pile of ash rested on the ground where the dark creature had hovered. Wispy orbs dispersed from the castle around them and floated softly to the heavens.

Arthur looked at Beatrix, stunned.

“I-I know you have a lot of questions, but we need to get back to the suitcase so we can use a scurtlekwib to get back home,” said Beatrix, slightly out of breath. Arthur looked at her, astonished. He hesitantly nodded his head.
