Why People Are Freaking Out About the Air Canada Breach

Air Canada experienced a breach of information with its application, posing a serious identity risk to users. While the company asserts that they believe less than 1% of their users could be at risk, no one knows the exact details of the breach or the amount of customers at risk.

Data that could have been compromised includes personal contact information along with passport data, such as passport numbers, country of issuance, expiration date, among other details. Most of the data compromised in this breach involve identity information, with very little behavioral information provided.

Unfortunately, this is not the only security breach for 2018. This adds to a growing list of security breaches that have happened this year such as:

• MyFitnessPal security breach
• Exactis security breach
• Electronic devices involved in a security breach
• Voting systems' security breach
• T-Mobile security breach

While it involves fewer users, it does indicate that tech companies are not prioritizing security. In addition to the many breaches that occurred last year with the most notable one being Equifax.
