Movie Review: Shadow
I recently stumbled upon this Chinese movie trailer called "Shadow" (in chinese 影) on Youtube. I found it very interesting and got myself a copy of it.
Interesting that this movie is from famous director Zhang Yimou who famous with award winning movies like The Curse of the Golden Flower, House of Flying Daggers, Hero '英雄' and more... I love his movies because of his artistic and theme style. He always fit the environment, clothing designs n others to the movie's name.
Plot Summary
Set during China's Three Kingdom's era (AD 220-280). Jingzhou was secrectly adopted at young age to be a 'shadow' or a body double to Commander Zhiyou in the event of his life being threatened. His existance was kept secret. One day when Commander Zhiyou lost a fighting match to Commander Yang and became incapacitated, his shadow replaced him while he himself live in a cave to find a way to defeat his rival.
Movie Review
The movie background, actors' costumes, environment are totally in black and white (light and shadow). This is to match the title of the movie.
At the beginning, the story may be abit confusing (Zhang Yimou's style). And slowly when it reach the middle part, things start reveal and become very interesting. The fighting scene are very very stylish as always and it flows like art. If you are a Chinese Guan Dau '闗刀'@Glaive fans, you wont be dissapointed and it will be the best compares to other movie Red Cliff or The Lost Bladesman.
Overall it really satisfied me and its a MUST WATCH movie
