THEY DID NOT GIVE UP PART 2-PHILO FARNSWORTH

INTRODUCTION

I started on a series ‘they did not give up’ series were l explore some of the inventors and scientists who didn’t give up in achieving their goals.This will help us in examing ourselves and in changing our perspective on how we see things and how we set our goals and priorities.In the previous series we learn about Thomas Edison and today we will explore the life of Philo Farnsworth a television inventor.Philo was a television inventor who made contributions to the early development of all electronic television.He was a talented young scientist who made it possible to come out with a fully electronic television.So many people came up with their ideas they was power struggle until in 1927 Philo Taylor Farnsworth successful demonstrated a television transmission with his own scanning tube.

Philo Taylor Farnsworthy was got his idea while he was ploughing a field.He was just 14 when he had the idea that shaped the rest of his life.Philo wasn’t the first person to dream up television but the most important thing is that he was the first person to find it work without a mechanical way.It was very difficult for other inventors to transmit image data.Farnsworthy central innovation was to imagine a way of doing it without a mechanical aspect and to rely on electrical technology alone,and so he wasn’t slowed by the abilities of a mechanical image-transmitting system like the onces used by earlier television developers.

According to Schwartz who wrote a book about Farnsworth explaining on how it happened:

‘Farnsworth dreamed up his own idea for electronic rather than mechanical television while driving a horsedrawn harrow at the family’s new farm in Idaho.As he ploughed a potato field in straight,parallel lines,he saw television in the furrows.He envisioned a systemthat would break an image into horizontal lines into a picture at the other end .Only electrons could capture,transmit and reproduce a clear moving figure.This Eurica experience happened at the age of 14.’

Considering that Philo was staying at a farm this is difficult to imagine how a young boy of 14 living on a farm could think of inventing a television a thing that older people were struggling to do and possibly staying in twon.l don’t know how the farms of that time were but if you have ever lived on a farm you can tell how life is difficult.l wan’t us to take another perspective on imagining how he became an inventer from the farm.It all goes back to working hard and never giving up.l remember growing up spending my holiday at the farm ploughing the whole day and it was never easy without proper living conditions but at the end of the season we would harvest and earn some money.Hard work pays off.

Philo was still a high school student when he started to dream about his invention.I’m sure Science was his favourite subject but unfortunately he was to concentrate more on his studies.Before long his father died and he had to drop out of school and he started to fix radios as part of making some moneys.Those who grew up without a father can really testify how important is a father in our lives both for moral support and financial support.l know how it is cause my father dies while l was 9 years old.Luckily Philo had a girlfriend who encouraged him to work upon his dream.

ADVANTAGES OF A TELEVISION

Have you ever imagined life without tv would be like. I remember growing up when my mother decided not to buy another tv when the one we had broke .We spend more than 5 years without a television.We had a computer in the living room were we would gather around and only watch Christian videos and listened to music.We were so shuttered down on what was happening around the world.Not getting first hand information was our order of the day.We were used to that routine up until 2010 when South Africa hosted the world cup that’s when she decided to buy us television. I remember the day we had a tv we slept late watching movies everyone was so happy and we watched movies till early hours of the morning.They are a lot of families who don’t allow their kids to watch tv and they say it has a negative impact in their lives but they don’t really know how their kids are missing out.We cannot dispute their point but we just wanna explore the benefits of watching television

 Tv programs boost a person intelligence,they are programs that require a person to think and understand what is happening.l used to watch the mentalist with my sister and it helped me intellectually

 Television provide us with the atmosphere of laughter.They are a lot of programs that when watching them you just can’t help it but laugh.l enjoy comedy central a lot. I used to watch a lot of just for laughs programs and it would take away all my anger and lower my blood pressure.

 They are DIY’s programs that are shown on tv or how to do things. This include fashion tv and food network programs.

 Educational and informative- Watching tv is educational and informative ,channels like national geography we learn a lot of things on them and history channels.l enjoy watching National Geography because of how it teaches about nature and animals I enjoy and learn a lot on this channel.

 Television brings families together-A lot of families gather together in the sitting room to watch tv and by so doing they end up having a favourite show they follow.Most of families watch series together and they bond over in the sitting room discussing how the series proceedings.

 Television keeps us updated on what is happening in the world.News channels keeps us abreast.l like ENCA,AL JEEZERA and SKYNEWS. Everyday l make it a point to watch news

 There are channels that are entertaining and can steam live programs e.g super sport channels they show live sporting games .

In Conclusion…..

We never too old or too young to achieve our dreams.lf we work upon them everyday and being surrounded by people who support us works best.Philo had a girlfriend and later on she became his wife who was there for him.We need to surround ourselves with positive thinkers in our lives.Our backgrounds who we are,where we come from does not matter,Philo was from the farms surrounded by donkeys and cows but today we talk of his invention.Difficult situations makes us to achieve great things in life.Bing here on Steem means we all looking for money let’s work hard and take this opportunity to live our dreams.All thanks to @steemstem community for forming this support unity for us who are interested in Science
