The American League Championship Series continues tonight as the Houston Astros play against the Boston Red Sox in what is considered a must win for the home team. The Astros are up 1-0 in the best of 7 series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:09pm Central Standard Time and the game can be seen on National Television on TBS. It will take place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The Astros are favored at -130 and the over/under is 8 runs. The weather forecast calls for very chilly temps and it is not a good night for a baseball game. The players, coaches and fans will all be freezing.
The Red Sox won more games than any other team this year. They were on a record setting pace and they have some of the best offensive stat lines that the MLB has seen in years. But in baseball, more than any other sport, seedings and the regular season don’t matter when it comes to playoff predictions.
Tonight the Red Sox will give the ball to lefty David Price. He will have the weight of the world on his shoulders as he tries to pitch his best game of the year. Price is 16-7 so far on the year with an ERA of 3.58. He is well rested though and the veteran pitcher should have his game face on tonight.
The Houston Astros enter tonight’s game in really good shape. If they can escape with a 2-0 lead after playing 2 road games, the odds will be heavily in their favor to advance to the World Series.
Justin Verlander pitched incredible in game 1 last night. He shut down the loaded Red Sox offense and got the Astros the very important win.
Tonight the Astros will send Gerrit Cole to the mound. Cole is in the prime of his career and he still has really good stuff. He spent most of his career with the Pirates but the Astros picked him up this year and he had his best year since 2015. Cole is 15-5 on the year with an ERA of 2.88.
The Red Sox really struggled to score last nigh in their loss. They will need to try and get after Cole in the first or second inning before he sets in tonight. The pressure will be huge on Boston but their fans will be loud and the home field advantage will be a big one.
