The 36-year old American and mother of one who has been gradually fighting her way back to reckoning in the world of tennis, won her semi-final match up against Germany’s Julia Gorges to qualify for the final of the Wimbledon Slam for an eighth time.
Williams, a former world number one, will play another German in the person of Angelique Kerber in the finals after going past Julia Gorges 6-2 6-4 in straights sets. Her Saturday’s opposition, Angelique Kerber also won in straight sets 6-3 6-3 against Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.

Coincidentally, the game between Williams and Kerber in the Wimbledon final on Saturday would be a re-match of the 2016 edition in which Serena Williams won. A win for the American star, who is competing in her first Grand Slam final since giving birth last September, will enable her attain a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam title.
From the onset, Williams set out for real business; as she took control of the game against the German, Julia Gorges seeded 13th and who was making her debut in the semi-final of a Grand Slam. Williams went about her powerful game against Gorges signifying that she had improved with each match she’d played so far.

Williams took the first set quite easy, and breaking in the sixth game when Gorges went wide. The American then wrapped up the set when the German’s sent a forehand wide. At the start of the second set, Williams continued her dominance of Gorges.

Julia Gorges who couldn’t cope with the power of Serena Williams all but surrendered to her opponent when she failed with an attempted lob which flew out, thereby handing over a well-deserved victory to Serena Williams in just about 70 minutes of the encounter.

A very ecstatic Serena Williams looked to the sky in joy and celebration, having qualified for another Grand Slam final for the 12th consecutive season. Although she just returned to the Tour back in March, she showed no signs of a lag in her game, and even at 36 years of age, the number one spot might not be too far-fetched for Williams.
With her passion and desire to win, despite just returning from maternity break after she almost died while giving last September to her daughter, Serena Williams would relish the opportunity of winning another Grand Slam title to add to her incredible condition
