In Philadelphia, the Diamondbacks used a 3-run 8th to pull away from the Phillies for an 8-4 victory last night. It was a bit of a weird outing for Robbie Ray, who struckout a season-high 11 batters, but failed to get out of the 5th inning, logging 4 2/3 innings pitched, 5 hits, 3 runs, and 3 walks on 107 pitches. To despite all the base-runners he was able to get several key strikeouts to keep the D-Backs in control and limit the damage by the Phils.

Catcher Alex Avila led the way for Arizona, going 3-4 with 2 runs scored, a HR, and 2 RBIs. Despite the teams combining for 12 runs and 18 hits, they also combined to strikeout 28 times. Look for today's battle between aces Zach Greinke and Jake Arrieta to produce a low-scoring pitcher's duel with plenty more K's. The D-Backs improved to 16-6 with the win and the Phils dropped to 14-8.

In St. Louis, the Mets got a big day from outfielder Jay Bruce, who tripled in a run in the 2nd inning, and then provided the heroics for visiting New York in the top of the 10th, when he sent one deep to center for a come-from-behind 6-5 extra innings victory over the Cardinals. A sac-fly from Adrian Gonzalez in the top of the 8th was enough to tie the game up at 5 heading into the 9th. Three New York relievers combined to hold the Cardinals scoreless over the last 4 innings as the Mets improved to 15-6 on the season. Center-fielder Tommy Pham did a little bit of everything for the Cardinals in this one, as he finished 3-3 with a Home Run, a run scored, 2 walks and 2 RBIs, but it wasn't quite enough as St. Louis came up short in this one, cooling them off a bit after going 8-1 in their past 9 games coming in. It should be an entertaining series all the way through as they square off again later today.
