New York Yankees Get Their Man

The New York Yankees hired their new manager today, Aaron Boone. He will replace the well liked and successful Joe Girardi who not only managed the team but also played catcher for several years. Girardi’s firing was a head scratcher to a lot of people as he led the team to the playoffs and even advanced to get as close as one game away from the World Series. The season was by no measures a failure and the New York media and fans went crazy when he was let go.

But the page has been turned and the 44 year old Boone is ready to lead the ship. His comment during the press conference today of, “With the New York Yankees, we are chasing championships.” And that statement is what every fan wants to hear. At the beginning of every season, the Yankees have one goal and one goal only, to win it all. With that expectation, the front office decided that Boone was a better fit than Girardi.

The Yankees are the most well known and historic franchise in all of baseball. They have had some of the most successful and loved managers over the years like Joe Torre and Boone will need to win immediately to fall into that group. He becomes the 33rd Yankee manager in the history of the franchise.

With a ton of talent back for next season, the high expectations can definitely be met. Aaron Judge is a beast and with some work in the batting cages during the off season he will be able to work on his flaws that led to so many strike outs. Judge is the leader on the field and Boone will be the leader in the dugout. The Yankee are currently 6/1 favorites to win the World Series in Las Vegas. The World Champion Houston Astros are 5/1. How far can Boone guide them, only time will tell.
