Floyd Mayweather has always been a marvel to both the boxing world and sports world in general. Asides from his killer instinct and impeccable defense, Floyd begins his assault on the opponent long before the bell rings. Floyd is a combination of high intelligence, athleticism, and championship caliber motivation each time he performs.

There are few like the greatest welterweight fighter of the modern era. Floyd is arguably the greatest 140 pounder of all time, and his resume can not be disputed. At 50-0, he has dismantled the greatest fighters of our era. From schooling Marquez and Pacquiao over 12 rounds...

...to completely eradicating Diego Corrales and Ricky Hatton with his overwhelming speed, we may never see a blend of confidence and lethality in a boxer as we have seen in FMJ. The 'Money' man evolved into a perfect fighter, but he has many influences many may not realize.
Have you ever noticed Floyd's tendencies over his 50 fights? What makes him a winner, what makes him special? Asides from the mentality, what is it that makes Floyd a perfect fighter? Well, to answer any of these questions, we must analyze his body of beautiful work.

For nearly 3 decades Floyd built his perfect resume; the propulsion of this man was started by blending all the teachings of his father, his uncle, and his own knowledge to culminate an immutable gameplan each time out. Floyd is not only a boxer, he is a martial artist.
Would you call me crazy if I were to infer that Floyd in fact uses many martial arts as influence in his fighting style? In fact the root of his defense and offense takes much of its origin from wing chun, and kung fu. The spirit of earth, fire, water, and air lives within Wing Chun... and Floyd is more like Bruce Lee than you may realize.

Just as Ip Man taught Bruce how to defend himself with the art of Wing Chun, Floyd also learned the Philly Shell from his father. The shell wastes an opponent's power by allowing the defender to 'roll' with the punch and not take the brunt of the force. This dispersal of power allows for a roll into the wave of power...
...this wave is the opposite hand which crashes like water into the opponent. "Be like water" Bruce Lee said, and Floyd listened. Water is calm, steady, and tranquil... but it can crash and destroy when heeded. The ability to transfer energy and mentality from defense to offense (and vice versa) is the most difficult of things to do as a pugilist.

Floyd utilizes the Wing Chun katas as they pertain to the elements, in fact the catching of punches with elbows while forcing the opponent to roll into his power is Wing Chun 101. The Earth, Wind, and Fire strikes are suited to different kata via positioning and intent of force.
Floyd also utilizes a solid thai plum in which he is a master at sneaking in uppercuts while he holds the back of his opponent's neck from the referee's blind side. Floyd is a chessmaster in the ring, and his full potential has no ceiling as his mind is a constant evolution.

To truly understand the greatness of Floyd, one must watch every movement he takes. Every snicker, glance, and smile mean something when he fights. The man is magic between ropes, and when the bell sounds he becomes something greater.... maybe the greatest.
