"Let me fight, just let me fight...", these are the words Justin Gaethje exclaimed as Herb Dean pulled both men to hear Bruce Buffer read the fight result. Dustin Poirier extended his streak to 2 after finishing Justin Gaethje with a variety of vicious punch combinations after eating 20 minutes of hellacious leg kicks himself.

It was one hell of a barn burner for as long as it lasted, and Arizona was an awesome crowd, although the majority of their hometown fighters lost. Carlos Condit, Matthew Lopez, and Justin Gaethje were the head of the class in their hometown Saturday night... but they were all finished brutally.

Gaethje was arguably winning the fight until he wasn't, it seemed as though Poirier could barely stand on the legs Justin kept banging away at, but the eyepokes he landed (which are illegal) had the ref in Herb Dean separating them, giving Poirier enough time to recover.
It was a strange turn of events at the end of the 3rd round with both Porier and Gaethje landing their own set of eye pokes are a vicious tug of war in the clinch and pocket. Herb gave Poirier all the time in the world to recover although in other championship level fights...

..he hasn't been consistent in the same fashion. It was still a good win for Poirier, and his one two combinations with his mixing up the takedowns looked very solid. The man has won 7 of his last 9 at 155 pounts, with one loss coming by flash knockout to Michael Johnson, and a questionable No Contest to Eddie Alvarez.
Poirier has been on a tear since he was knocked out by Conor McGregor in late 2014, maybe he got the rub from a very ahead of his time striker. We will see if Poirier is next for the champion in Khabib, or if he will welcome Tony Ferguson back... we can only look forward to these amazing possibilities!

The issue with Justin is that while he is an UNBELIEVABLY exciting fighter, his style is not good for long term, he probably already has CTE and it only gets worse from here. He needs to utilize his offensive wrestling and work on head movement or at least more effective counters. Eventually he will go the way of Diego Sanchez. Respect to him for always coming forward and fighting the best but he has to think about this body as well. Hoping to see some improvements in his next fight

You're absolutely right, it's a shame because he has the tools to be champ.
