Messi punished for the red card in the Copa América match.
CONMEBOL Disciplinary Court issued a decision on the red card, which Lionel Messi received in the meeting for the 3rd place on Copa América.
On the 6th of July a consolation match for Argentina and Chile was held. Both of these teams did not advance to the finals of the South American Championships. It was half an hour before the game and the "Albicelese" were already 2: 0. Then there was a scuffle between Lionel Messi and Gary Medel, as a result the referee dismissed both players from the field.
In the end Argentineans won 2: 1, but after the last whistle the nerves once again let go the captain of the victorious team. In strong words, the three-time Golden Ball winner criticized the authorities of CONMEBOL and the judges. Today, however, the South American football confederation referred ONLY to the red card.
The 32-year-old has been imposed a 1 match suspension penalty, which the player will take in March, when his team will take part in qualifying for the World Cup 2022. In addition, he must pay a fine of $ 1,500 (€ 1345). This money will be automatically deducted from the pool of prizes for the Argentine football federation.
However, let us add that this is not the end of emotions. There are two separate proceedings against Lionel Messi connected with the words uttered by him, for which he is threatened with up to 2 years of suspension.
