The FIDE World Chess Championship Match 2016 is set to be an epic Struggle. The defending World Champion from Norway is a clear favourite in many people’ s view, but the Russian challenger, Sergey Karjakin, is not to be underestimated. This is an important match for Russia, chess is a popular sport in Russia, and chess has been important politically, all the way back to the Soviet times. Karjakin will have a very strong supporting team behind him ,from the world’s strongest chess nation.

Magnus Carlsen vs Sergey Karjakin 2

Magnus Carlsen

Magnus Carlsen(born Nov 30 1990) is the Norwegian chess prodigy who became a Grandmaster at the age of 13, the third youngest in chess history. He has been dominating world chess since 2011, when he took first place in the ranking list.
In 2013 he became World Champion, defeating the defending champion Viswanathan Anand in 2013, and defending his title against the same and in 2014. Magnus Carlsen is believed by many to be the strongest chess player that ever lived, and he is known for his superb positional play, and endgame mastery. Carlsen typically aims for sidelines in the opening, avoiding opening theory, instead aiming to outplay his opponents in the middle and endgame.

Sergey Karjakin

Sergey Karjakin(born Jan 12, 1990) is another child prodigy, and a contemporary of Magnus Carlsen. He is the youngest ever to reach the grandmaster title, at the age of 12. Karjakin won the candidate's tour in Moscow, and qualified to contend for the world chess crown. He defeated.Caruana in the last round of the tournament to finish with 8,5 out of 14, one point ahead of Caruana and Anand.

The Matchup

In Judging this match, it's important to realize that match play is not the same as tournament play. Although Magnus Carlsen is officially the stronger player, and the world's strongest player, World Championship matches are always very tense struggles, where match psychology, preparation and the strength of the supporting teams around the players takes on a great importance.

The 12-game match is planned to take place between 11–30 November in the renovated Fulton Market Building (formerly Fulton Fish Market) in the South Street Seaport in New York City,[4] with the two contestants competing for a prize fund of at least 1 million euros (US$1.1m).[5] If the score is tied after 12 games, a four-game rapid chess match will be played, then five two-game matches of blitz chess if necessary, and finally, an Armageddon game will be used to break the tie. (Regulations 3.7).[2]

Although the comprehensive effect of the venture is yet to be seen, Agon has proclaimed: "The world chess championship in New York will be the first in any sport to be broadcast in 360-degree virtual reality (VR)."[6][7] Previous comments about the August 2016 Rio Olympics opening ceremony VR experience were mixed.

How to Play

  • Vote on the main post to enter the bet (main post rewards will also be added to the Stake Pool).

  • Cast your Vote Bet on ONLY ONE outcome for which you bet on for the win (Multiple comment votes will be automatically disqualified by the script, unvote and revote counts as multiple votes and will be disqualified).

  • After 24 hours, the post and related game comments payout to the pool; remember 25% voters rewards are deducted from the total post payout value first as per Steem curation rules. Voters are rewarded in standard fashion in proportion to their Steem Power holdings.

The Stake Pool:

  • The remaining 75% of the total payout is paid out in 50% Steem Power and 50% in liquid currencies, the latter now varies in payout ratio after the new fork. To make the process less complicated, we have decided to use all paid out SBD to buy Steem in the internal market to create a grand total Steem Stake Pool.

  • 30% of the Stake Pool will be retained, of which 15% will go to the writer/sports presenter of the post, and the 15% balance towards editing, development and advertising.

  • 70% of the Stake Pool will be held until the event/game outcome is determined.

  • Once the winning outcome is determined, we will execute a proprietary developed script that will divide and pay out the Steem rewards equally, using the Power Up method, to Mass Distribute SP to all participants that voted on the main post as the entrance fee as well as voted on the correct comment representing the winning outcome.

  • Only participants with a Reputation of 35 or more will qualify to earn SP rewards, but non-qualifiers can still vote and comment in support of the redistribution initiative.

  • Entry cut-off time is the earlier of the post payout or the start of the event.

  • @steemsports is not a traditional betting platform and no fiat currency is used as rewards or in casting bets; as such does not fall under any gaming and gambling jurisdictions; but even so, users are urged to first consult with the laws and age restrictions of their countries.

  • @steemsports in the unlikely event that when the Stake Pool is divided up between the winners and the nomenclature resolution goes below the third decimal place (example: 0.0001), then Steem decimal restrictions won’t allow a payout and the pool will carry over to the next game.

  • Please vote responsibly :).

Voting Karjakin, but I just wanted to say...

Chess is not a sport

I might disagree with this. It's mental gymnastics and stamina and training is definitely involved.

That is like saying you need mental stamina to play a video game for hours, it is basically the same thing. Not a sport. Ice Hockey is a sport, even Golf I can give the nod to. Chess is a board game not a sport.

Pssst... I'm telling you a secret: "you need mental stamina to play a video game for hours", it's called eSport. ;)

This is what it takes to make it a sport: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_boxing

Karjakin!

Karjakin to win
And welcome to steemsports @kooshikoo :)

Karjakin all the way!!

Karjakin only because he won the coin toss

Karjakin all the way!

Sergey Karjakin

Carlson

As a fellow viking Magnus get my support.
He's the only chessplayer who have had all three championship titles at once.

Draw count on it

Voted Draw. @steemsports is there a difference if I vote with 1% or 100% on favourite outcome? Should I just save power and vote 1%?

@logic the idea is to help increase the pool for everyone. So if you have less than 100K SP you will be required to vote at least main post or the comment with 100%, so for example vote main 100% and comment 1% is fine.

Thanks for reply. I understand voting with 100% on main post but I see no reason to use power on vote as curation from votes is not being used for prizes.

The liquid rewards received on the comments are also included in the pool. So the more power you vote with on the comments, the better it is for your too.

Ok. Thanks
:v

Draw.

I think it's cool that this was included in steemsports. Who knew a chess tournament was worth so much money?

Sergey to win

Now we're talkin', baby!

Representing the King's Indian Defense! Chess is in da house, yeaaaah!
