Coin of the Day 10-16-18

"When life gives you junk, remember to be thankful when that junk is silver."

That's an original @themanwithnoname quote and you can quote me on that.

A while back when I was wrapping up at the coin store, I noticed they had more Constitutional silver in stock than normal and rather than buying a few more ounces, I opted for these beauties.

The Walking Liberty halves aren't in the best shape, but I got them at a decent price, and they're one of my favorite designs. There aren't many Franklin halves in circulation either, so they're a treat to see, even if you have to pay a little over spot price for them. And of course I couldn't walk out without quarters. Those go quickly when they're in stock, so I had to finish off with them.

Do you have junk silver as part of your silver plan?

Sort:

A vital staple in a diversified silver portfolio; for emergency commerce as in the role of fractional currency as well as valued collectability.

Thank you! I agree. :)

I am a great fan of junk silver. I have American, Canadian, Brazilian and Swiss junk silver.

I don't have the Canadian, Brazilian, or Swiss, so your collection intrigues me. Would love to get some of it, but the LCS hasn't had it in stock. It might be a while. Ha ha

You can never go wrong with 90%. Cheap and nearly always available. Oh and nice quote @themanwithnoname.

Yeah, it doesn't have the normal premium that most coins have. Unfortunately, the LCS doesn't have them in very often. Maybe because there's not much of a markup, so they'd rather stock stuff they make money on. :P

howdy sir noname! well I don't have a plan so I guess that's my plan.

At least you know it's your plan. :)

Nice array of constitutional silver bro.👍

I appreciate it! Gotta diversify. :)

What are halves?

Half dollars brother

Thanks, @silverd510!

@bengy, they are indeed half Dollars. :)

Lol, why not 50 cents?

I guess because you round up. So if it was worth $0.49, then you would call it a 49 cent piece, but since it's $0.50, you refer to it by the larger unit to which it's rounded. Although, even $0.25 pieces we call "quarters" because they're a quarter dollar. So I don't really know.

I think it's because we're trained to think of things in dollars! Also "half" is easier and shorter to say than "fifty cent piece." :P

Lol... Funny, I always knew coins by their cent values!

Yeah, it's sort of weird. Don't worry. People would still know what you meant if you said a "50 cent piece." The coins are uncommon enough that you don't normally see them in circulation. I think it's mainly the banks that use them.

Different to Australia and EU then! We have 50 cent pieces everywhere... But no 25 cent ones!

Don't know if you have seen an Australian 50 cent, it's massive and 12 sided. The large surface area makes for a great surface for doing special coins.

Thanks, I thought so... But aren't they normally called 50 cents!

I don't think I've heard them called 50 ent pieces very often. Most people just say "half dollar" or "halves."

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

I love the walking liberty half dollars! I have a few of them too. I still need to go through my junk silver in my collection. haha

It's such a great design. You should go through them and see what you have. Maybe even post on them! :D

hahaha yes I definitely need to!

You're already in SSG, so if you keep posting on precious metals and delegate or donate to @ssg-community you can get upvotes from the community account too.

Cool yeah I need to do more of those posts for sure!
