#piratesunday: A Common but UNIQUE Silver Bar
I have a standing arrangement with #piratesunday @stokjockey to be actively looking for silver MTB Liberty Bars and Rounds, and to acquire the silver on my behalf should he find one.
and I am stoked!
1982 MTB Liberty Silver Bar
by Johnson Matthey 1 troy ounce, .999 fine silverA beautiful and prestine specimem silver bar in its original mint-sealed package.

I may have mentioned in past articles that the MTB (Manfra, Tordella & Brookes) commisioned the Liberty silver and gold bars and rounds to and were produced by three mints: Johnson Matthey, Engelhard, and the Casa de Moneda of Mexico

But more importantly, the serial number was double stamped, which makes it an error bar.
[Although]Double stamps were quite common in this era but are still unique. I will send to the review team but we're pretty limited on content space and I will need to let them determine if we have room to note this. We have seen examples in almost every variety of Johnson Matthey and Engelhard, and typically we make note if the bar is a rare Tier 1 or Tier 2.

Glad you explained what MTB was. Lol I thought mints didn't like to let ANY errors through? So when you say double stamping was common then, I'm a bit taken back.

Exactly... they want their rounds and bars to be perfect most especially the MTBs. The special design of MTB Statue of Liberty silver and gold medals and bars were minted for the centennial celebration, so the rounds in both gold and silver were considered commemoratives along with the gold and silver bars. Then many other foundries, refiners and mints used the design for their generic rounds, just as the designs of US coins are depicted in generic rounds and bars. Have a lovely Sunday, @welshstacker. Can never go wrong with any JM silver. But an error is even better bestie. Nice pieces🌹❤️
It is my first error bar, bestie. By now you know that I am not really into error silver or special silver. I am just a regular girl stacking what is affordable. I do want to collect designs and special coins like my all-time favorite graded Peace Dollars, but I go for small-ticket items, knowing that my objective for stacking is to preserve value, and may in time sell my stack.

Yes sometimes, errors are by the hundreds sometimes a thousand which makes them "common". Most recently is Perth Mint Emu coin... there was a die error (I think it is) making the Emu appear like having three legs. It was not caught at the mint, rather by one of the stackers. Sometimes it is just an aberration, and only a few coins will have the error, or that simply only a few people have come out with the error... in this case that would be a "rare" error.
