Ahh’m nae givin' any emancipation, nur any leeway, nur any rope tae hang myself with in front of th' Admiral!" The Captain reaffirmed as his eyes burned red with anger...

"Ahh've got a descent pension sittin' reit haur oan th' table! Tells me one bloody reason wa Ahh shoods nae take it?!"

[Elgol Village, Captain's cottage...]

"Aye, ye do! But Ahh knows deep doon in mah heart, it's nae what ye want! Nae noow?!" Galligan pressed.
“Blast yer devilish ways fortune teller!” The Captain mocked, the whiskey now beginning to have its affect.
“Ahh’m nae fortune teller, but Ahh am someain who knows ye almost as well as Sally May herself! An'...I knows ye arenae ready tae hand ower th' Silverton!" Galligan said firmly, locking eyes with him.

The Captain glanced away and stroked his black beard as his mind ran like an old clock…

“Thaur may be …some truth ta whit yoo're sayin'… but it still doesnae change th' fact 'att Ahh've got a whieest crew!" He said stubbornly.

Galligan leaned forward and pressed his large hands on the table top…

“Aye! Ye’ve got a whieest crew! An’ they’s goin’ ta be whieest today and they’s goin’ ta be whieest tomorrows! It’s jist the ways of it noow Keptin!”

The Captain took a deep breath and glanced at the fire in the fireplace…

“So wa emancipation?!"
“Cuz they dornt want th' responsibility! They arenae th' crew of auld Sairrr! They's nae inter-actiff, they're nae aboot 'speakin up! They're whieest, an' they'll stay whieest as lang as they sail! But Ahh knows...Ahh knows as sure as a clam belches pearls - 'att many of 'em woods give they’s reit hand fur ye Sairrr!" Galligan said emphatically.
“Humff!” The Captain grunted as he rolled the empty chigger glass between his fingers, “Emancipation?! Alright...Ahh'll give emancipation. But hear thes an' tells ‘em straight- if it's a change of rules they’s want 'en a change they will git! There'll be nae recognition of renk fur anyain who has nae bin aboard fur fower years!"

Galligan’s eyebrows went up and his jaw dropped…

“Fower years?! Wa with Fisky retirin' an' Tuna returnin' ta th' farm, 'att leaves jist Hack an' me?!" Galligan said in a sober tone.
“So bee’s it! An’ ye can post uir vacancies in th' Elgol morn’ pepper! If ye cannae git me thirty-six guid men, 'en Ahh’m siginin' thes release an' Sally an' Tipper an' Ahh will cozy-up haur in th' cottage an' forgit th' Scottish Navy ever existed!”

With that, the Captain stood up, stoked his pipe full and walked out into the dark on the front porch. Through the window, Galligan could see the red hot glow of the pipe bowl glowing like a beacon in the night.

He knew from experience that this was as far as the conversation was going to go and that he had gotten about as much “emancipation” as Joshua Gavin Slane was ever going to give.
