THE INDIAN HEAD / BUFFALO NICKEL - 400 PERCENT INCREASE AND SENTIMENTAL VALUE

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago

THIS INDIAN HEAD / BUFFALO NICKEL . . . NUMISMATIC VALUE ... HAD 400 PERCENT INCREASE !!!

I have a Indian Head / Buffalo Nickel pictured below that has numismatic value and it is worth about $1.50.
It is easily identified by the Indian Head on the obverse and the Buffalo on the reverse.
This design is very popular for reproductions of Silver Rounds of 1 ounce, 2 ounce, and even 5 ounce rounds.

Coin collectors of see these coins that are the same size, color and weight of current U.S. nickels.

The Indian Head / Buffalo Nickel pictured is a 1936S. There were only 14,930,000 minted.

Let's see how many numismatic coin collectors we have here on steemit.

INDIAN HEAD / BUFFALO NICKEL

I have a 1974 Red Book and a 2017 Red Book, which are a.k.a. "A Guide Book of United States Coins" By R.S. Yeoman is THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE for all U.S. Coins.

The INDIAN HEAD / BUFFALO NICKEL pages from the 1974 Red Book shows the value of the coin in 1974 is 40 cents, I paid 35 cents.

WHY I AM POSTING THIS COIN

I've been collecting coins for over 40 years. I actually bought this coin over 40 years ago for 35 cents. Then, it was actually worth about 40 cents, today it is worth $1.50. At this point, the coin has sentimental value to me, much more than $1.50.

Here's just another example of increased value of numismatic coins for coin collectors.

I am putting this post out to bring attention to coins that people collect.

I'm a cashier, is there anything I should be on the lookout for while handling money? Old dollar bills?

Yes! Absolutely. You should check for SILVER coins, which are 1964 or before dimes, quarters, half dollars. To make things easier, look at the edge of the these coins. On the edge of current coins, you will see a line that is copper in color because the current coins are like a sandwich with silver - copper - silver in color. The 1964(and before) coins do not have the copper line because they are completely silver, no copper, no sandwich.
As for old dollar bills, I have to say no. Old bills don't have a lot of added value. Some bills are 'star notes' which means the last character is a star, not a number. These bills are replacements for bills that were damaged or returned to the mint for one reason or another. The star notes are interesting, but also they do not have a lot of added value.
Finally, the TWO dollar bill. Some people have posted videos of going to a cashier and presenting a TWO dollar bill. The joke is on the cashier because the cashier often says 'this isn't real', but it is real. Just not very common. If you get a TWO dollar bill, it is always an interesting item to have. You can get a TWO dollar bill at the bank. It has no added value, but it is interesting. As a cashier, don't say the TWO dollar bill isn't real. If you want to have fun, give a TWO dollar bill to someone as change and watch their confusion as they say, 'this isn't real'...

This is extremely interesting! I'll be looking out for these from now forward!

I know pre 1982 pennies are made with more copper, and are worth more, but they're also illegal to melt down to get the copper. Do you have an opinion on collecting these for future value, or would something like this be a waste of time?

The Old Man from Pawn Stars is collecting pennies. There was an episode that mentioned his barrels of pennies and the youngest guy was saying it was a waste. The Old Man was adamant that it is worth saving. . .
I think is is worth saving, but it ends up being VERY HEAVY and BULKY. So I have not started saving in barrels like the Old Man.

This looks very cool, looks like true history :)
The indian and the buffalo is a pice of art!

Yes, this design is history, one of the most popular and well know coins... Silver Mints have duplicated this design. I have lots of buffalo nickels and many silver rounds with this design.

All the respect for what you do, you actualy have a pice of humankind history :)
Wich is very cool and i thank you for sharing that with us :)

This is awesome. I should run this test on some of the old mercury dimes and buffalo nickels my grandpa gave me when I was young.

Yes, you should. You will see increased value. It is unlikely to surpass your sentimental value.
