Promoting via Facebook Ads.

Facebook is an amazing social media platform when it comes to reaching out to millions of potential new clients, the only limitations really is your advertising budget. I speak with numerous clients who, in the past have had little or no luck, and this, in most cases due to the fact they haven't set up their campaigns correctly. Below I share some tips to running a successful campaign including what not to do.


The easiest way to set up a Facebook Ads Campaign is to simply 'boost' a post, in fact it only takes a couple of clicks to get this under way. This is the rookie mistake most people make. DON'T!

Firstly, set up a Facebook Business Ad Account before attempting to run a campaign. Why? This will give you more features as well as more analytics on your Facebook Ad Campaign, reasons I will go into further on.

Once you have your Facebook Business Ad Account, it is time to set your ad up. To do this you need to create a post on your Facebook Business Page first. Use an enticing photo (Not too much text in it.) and then your Ad Copy (text) stick to getting your point across in the first 2 sentences, keep it short and snappy with a strong call to action.

Now the promotion, from the Facebook Business Ad Account, choose engagement, define your audience, the more defined the better, choosing gender, age range, location and interests pertaining to what you are promoting, for instance if you are selling wallpaper, peoples interests include home decor, interior design, home improvement etc. The more details here the better.

And, where most people go wrong, define the people you DON'T want to see your ad. Typically (Unless your market targets these.) exclude peoples whose job titles are unemployed, disabled and the same with employers, as they can be listed under either.

And now, to get the most out of your ads, you need to edit placement. Stick to showing on timeline only, avoid left hand side advertising (When was the last time you noticed or even clicked on the ads to the side of Facebook!). Having done all the above your ad is ready to run with a budget suitable to you.

To make sure you get the very best out of your Facebook Ad, check the results every few days, you will notice from the analytics what works best (Age Range, Gender Etc.) and then adjust your ad to promote to the most engaging of your audiences, this way it will get you more views per £ spend. Think of it as fine-tuning an old radio by its dial to get the very best sound.

And that is basically it, if doing the above you will not be wasting half your spend on pointlessly placed ads and ads to the wrong people.
