I never saw the stadium like tonight, since I was here in Manchester. They know we gave everything, but football is like this, it's unpredictable.”  There were four goals in the opening 11 minutes in a frenetic opening to the game, but City edged ahead 4-2 on the night, before Llorente's decisive intervention.

Manchester City will be hosting Spurs again on Sunday in the Premier League and should put this mishap behind them and spotlight on their title tussle with Liverpool .

“We have to stand up and react,” said Guardiola. “We've fought for nine or 10 months in the Premier League. Of course it's tough and we have to do it until the end.”
