One of the successes in the learning process carried out by students is the emergence of discipline in a student. Discipline is a condition that is created and formed through a process and a series of behaviors that show the values of obedience, obedience, loyalty, and order.

Therefore, in everyday life, we often listen to people who say that A is a person who has great discipline, if B is a person who lacks discipline, while C is undisciplined, etc. It is a whole way of evaluating others. And sometimes we also easily judge other people, whether classified as disciplined or undisciplined. Therefore, discipline is an activity that is carried out so as not to violate applicable regulations.

Discipline in a person is easily seen, both in the family environment, in society and more specifically in the school environment, where students who lack discipline commit many violations of school discipline.

This is because, by participating in the learning activities of the school, of course, each student will not be separated from the various rules and regulations that apply in their school, and it is required that each student be able to behave in accordance with the rules and regulations. Regulations that apply to your school. Student compliance and obedience to the various rules and regulations that apply at the school may be referred to as school discipline.

Therefore, school discipline is an effort made to maintain student behavior so as not to deviate and may encourage students to behave in accordance with the rules, rules, and regulations that apply at the school. For example, dress codes for students (school uniform), arriving on time, ethics in learning for students, etc.

When applying discipline, sometimes in the family environment, in the community and especially in the school environment, it is sometimes also applied to impose sanctions as a consequence of undisciplined behavior or violation of the rules. Although, sometimes, the punishment (sanction) becomes a controversy in the application of the disciplinary method, so it is trapped in the form of physical mistreatment and incorrect psychological treatment.

Therefore, for schools, especially teachers must understand the purpose of implementing discipline in the school environment.

The purpose of school discipline is to: help students create behaviors that are not deviant, encourage students to do good and right things, help students understand and adapt to the demands of their environment and keep them away from things that are forbidden, guiding students to make good and beneficial habits for him and his environment.
In general, the purpose of school discipline is to create safety, comfort and a quiet learning environment, especially in the classroom. Because, in the classroom, if a teacher can not apply discipline properly, students may feel less motivated and the learning atmosphere becomes less conducive to achieving good learning outcomes.

In the implementation of the discipline, especially in the school environment, there are two types of disciplines that must be developed especially in the school environment, namely:

Source
  • First, Preventive Discipline, that is, the efforts made for students to follow and comply with the applicable regulations in the school environment. Therefore, students are expected to be disciplined and able to support applicable regulations.
  • Second, the corrective discipline, that is, the efforts made to direct the students to follow the rules. This is intended for those who violate school rules to receive sanctions to teach and improve themselves to maintain and follow the rules.
A teacher should set a good example for his students. The cause, attitude, example, facts, and words of the teacher that the students see and hear can seep so deeply into the hearts of the students and the impact sometimes overcomes the influence of their parents at home.

Therefore, there are several efforts that teachers can make to inculcate discipline, including:

Source
  • First, the teacher must be an example of discipline. For example, the teacher must arrive on time. Because if the teacher does not arrive on time, do not expect the students to have a disciplined attitude and arrive on time. Because of this, the teacher should avoid the habit of being late to class, especially in the classes they rarely attend.
  • Second, teachers are expected to constantly disseminate to students the importance of discipline in learning to achieve the best results, through training and, most importantly, through the example given by the teacher.
  • Finally, teachers and schools implement clear and firm rules of order, so that they are easy to follow and can create an environment conducive to student learning.
The teacher as an educator in the school setting should always be an example to the students, which can show disciplinary behavior.
