Steem Monsters Tournaments are a GREAT way to spread the word about your cause, whether it's for-profit, or not.
For just $2.00* you can create your own tournament with all different kinds of prizes!

It's Easy! In fact, let me show you how to do it!
Step 1. Head over to the tournaments page and click the CREATE EVENT button.
You'll see a page with some notable information about creating a tournament, after you have read that, click NEXT.
On the next page you will be able to enter the Date/Time/Description for your event.
As you can see above I have set the time for my tournament to be tonight at 7:30 PM.
Once you have entered your details, click NEXT.
On the next page, enter the minimum and maximum amount of entrants you would like in your tournament. Then input the entry fee, if you choose to have one.
Click NEXT.
On the next page you will setup the rules.
I have chosen to go with Novice League, All Cards, with a Best of 3 format.
Again, click NEXT.
The next page is the rewards page where you enter the amount of steem or custom rewards you will give out in your tournament.
Too add extra ranks, click the ADD RANK button, enter the custom reward or amount of STEEM/SBD for each rank then click NEXT. If you want to make a custom prize click where it says STEEM and a drop-down menu will appear.
On the next page you will enter your sponsor information (The sponsor can be you)
You will need an event logo image with a recommended size of 256x256px with an option to add your own arena background!
Once done, click NEXT.
Now check and make sure everything is correct then click CREATE to submit your tournament, then you will be asked to pay the setup fee of $2 in a Steem Connect window or Keychain if you have it installed.
Send your payment, and you're done!

What is the typical return on investment? How could I best promote, say a book, by sponsoring a tournament?
If there is such a thing as a typical ROI yet I wouldn't know where to find the information as these tournaments are a little too new to have any reliable statistics as far as I know. But you can easily promote your book with images, hyperlinks, and a good description. :)
I would plan it a few days in advance to gain as much attention as you can before holding the actual tournament, post links around other social media sites for a while and see how many people you can get to join.
Edit* Of course you can always rely on the Official Steem Monsters Discord as well to spread the word.
