Steem Monsters: Using Jarlax Wisely

With the beta packs launching a new summoner for every splinter that costs less, but offers no additional buffing ability, their functionality obviously lies in their strategic use.

Jarlax the Undead is an example of one of these new summoners, and while difficult to obtain given his Epic status, his benefit is greatest felt given the Death Splinter's penchant for lower mana cost cards. This allows for the user to squeeze just one more monster in or upgrade just one more Death monster in order to squeeze under that mana cap. It could be a world of difference for those trying to optimize their team formation and combination of monster pairings.

Using Jarlax is most beneficial for lower mana cap game formats, so pay close attention to the mana cap rather than aribtrarily using him at will. Given the upcoming format in which game formats change every game, this is particularly important to consider. Higher mana cap games (say in the 20+ region) will benefit far less given the prevalence of many monsters which would benefit far more from an overarching summoner buff. Yet in the lower mana cap games (say <20), the difference Jarlax can bring to the game far outweighs whatever benefit a summoner debuff could bring to the table.
