Health Benefits of Writing by Hand

I can't recall writing anything down on a piece of paper in quite a long time. Everything that I do these days requires typing by using a computer. Typing on a computer is much faster and more efficient than writing things down by hand. As it turns out though, writing by hand has far more health benefits than typing by using a keyboard.

Writing things down by hand is a skill in and of itself. Most people assume that writing only requires your hands, however, it actually requires the use of your entire body. Writing things down manually takes much longer than typing.

When writing by hand it is very important not to make any mistakes. Unlike using a computer, writing things down manually does not allow for the use of a delete key. This is actually beneficial though because it helps the author hone his writing skills. He or she is less likely to make errors when knowing that those errors cannot easily be erased.

There seems to be an emotional bond that exists between the mind and the hand. Handwritten notes, for instance, can be a very expressive way of getting your point across. Typing, on the other hand, can somehow come across as static and dispassionate.

Writing things down by hand has been shown to cause a decrease in blood pressure. It also reduces stress levels and decreases symptoms of depression.
