Well, today we are going to learn more about water:

  1. Why we need water?
  2. What do we use water for?
  3. What can water do?
  4. Water in everyday life
  5. Wonderful things made from water.
  6. How can we save water?

After we have discussed the above-mentioned topics we are going to have some fun doing two science experiments.

First, we are going to watch a video about who needs water.

1. Why we need water?

Water is a part of our basic human rights and in most countries, the governments try there utmost best to provide clean and safe water for their citizens. Since electricity is not a basic need, this comes after the provision of water and food.

2. What do we use water for?

Let's do a simple thinking activity. Depending on what age group you have, they can either write, draw or verbally answer the following questions:

  • Where at your home do you use water?
To drink, bath, wash clothes, make food, clean the house, watering plants, washing the car and windows.
  • Where in town is water used?
    Watering plants, cleaning, drinking.
*What do you think water is used for?
The level of this answer will also differ depending on the age group. So I will leave this answer open, as long as the answer is relevant to the question it can be seen as sensible.

3. What can water do?

Water can give life, it can clean and prevent diseases from spreading.

4. Water in everyday life

In our everyday water plays a major role, from helping us keep healthy to helping us keep clean, growing plants and food that in return keeps us alive.

5. Wonderful things made from water.

Since water can change from a liquid form to a solid form the most amazing ice sculptures can be found out and about in nature. Look at the following video to see how awe-inspiring it can be.

6. How can we save water?

We can save water in the following ways:

  1. Closing the taps when we are not using them.
  2. Not taking big and long baths and showers.
  3. When brushing your teeth, close the tap when you don't use it.
  4. Install modern toilets that use less water.
  5. Water your garden early or late the day when the son isn't that hot.
  6. Use plants that don't need that much water.
  7. Use a broom not a hose to clean walkways and sidewalks.

Today we are going to do two science experiments using water:

Experiment 1: Walking Water

What you will need:

  1. small bowls
  2. different food coloring
  3. paper towels

Instructions:

  1. Place the different bowls next to each other.
  2. Place paper towels going from the one bowl to the next. Some bowls will have to. (The image shows this clearly).
  3. Let the water walk from one bowl to the next.

Halloween Activity 2: Creepy density

You will need the following:

  1. Any scary object. In the image, they used a spider.
  2. Golden Syrup
  3. Water
  4. Food coloring
  5. Vegetable Oil
  6. Treacle

Instructions:

  1. Poor each liquid in separately, but do it slowly.
  2. The different liquids won't mix, they will make clear layers.
  3. Now start putting in the different scary objects to see at which level the objects will start floating.

When done, this can look very creepy and makes some amazing items to use to decorate.

Have fun!
